Planning on heading to Canada this summer.
May only have about 3 weeks to spend there but would like to see as much of the place as i can.
I'd love to see Quebec, and British Columbia which are sorta opposite sides of the country.
    Anybody been?
    Recommendations welcome.

My favourite sight in Canada is The Rockies and no place better than Banff so see them.

Niagara Falls. The city itself is two completely different extremes!

We walked out of the train station (train from Toronto) and stumbled across a load of Canadian police who were just investigating a murder scene :eek:!!!!

Then we got down to the real touristy area (real Butlin's feeling) but seeing the Falls and doing the Maid of the Mist made it completely worthwhile!!!

I spent 6 weeks crossing Canada back in the nineties and would definately recommend Vancouver and British Columbia , if you can't get that far west, certainly get to Banff, Alberta its absolutely wonderful!! Really enjoyed Toronto also!! Have to say I travelled across by Greyhound and loved every minute of it , give yourself plenty of time to get around cos it can take days just to cross a province!! Hope you enjoy it! Good luck!

I went to Canada Summer 06 and had a fabulous trip there for three weeks, then on to New York for a week. We flew to Vancouver and spent about a week, really enjoyed the city especially Stanley Park and the beaches. The people were lovely there and very chilled. We also went on day trips to Whistler, Hell's Gate, Lynn Canyon, all well worth seeing. We then flew to Calgary and took a short bus ride and stayed in Banff, the gateway to the Rockies. We flew with Harmony Airways which are like the Canadian Ryanair, cheap and cheerful. The Rockies are so worth seeing, we were up on a glacier in the height of summer and a bear ran out in front of our car on the way back. The scenery is just spectacular and Banff is a really quaint though somewhat touristy small town. We then flew to Montreal which is so unique with the french yet canadian culture. After that a bus to Toronto where we stayed in the Global Backpackers Hostel. The hostel was the most fun I have ever stayed in, own bar, clean, helpful staff, lots of tours available, great craic. We went to Niagara on a day trip from the hostel and visited local wineries as part of the package. Niagara again is just something you have to see. I spent so much money as you can imagine but I think it was worth it. Canada is a country of great contrasts and you will have a ball.

heading to Canada in few weeks on second visit. Previously visited Niiagra/Toronto (east coast), the Calgary/Banff/Lake Louise/Edmonton (midwest) and Vancouver (west). All places to be visited again. could you fly to Vancouver and then drive across rockies to Calgary and take in as much as possible on the west coast areas. Then fly to Toronto/Montreal and take in as much as possible there. Definitely get to Niiagra - really spectacular

Going to Canada myself at the end of August. Five of us going and we're covering British Columbia, The Rockies and two places in Alberta. Been to Canada four times myself before (family holiday in 1994 and family weddings in 1999, 2000 and 2004 I think !) and would definitely recommend it !!! Been to Vancouver, Victoria, Banff, Edmonton and Toronto. Toronto's ok, but not as nice as the West Coast and the Rockies. This year we went through a Travel Agents to book it ... worked out around three grand for each of us (covers accomodation in all places, trains and flights). Here's a rough guide to where we're going ...

    Depart Dublin - Arrive Vancouver
    Vancouver - 4 nights
    Whistler Express train to Whistler
    Whistler - 3 nights
    Whistler Express train to Vancouver
    Vancouver - 1 night
Rocky Mountaineer train to Jasper, with 1 night stay in Kamloops
    Jasper - 1 night
    Bus to Banff
    Banff - 2 nights (I think !)
    Viarail train to Edmonton
Fantasy Hotel at West Edmonton Mall - 1 night
Last 3-4 nights with Mother's relations (Taking trip to Hannah, where rock band Nickelback are from, too ! :D)
Depart Edmonton - Arrive Vancouver - Depart Vancouver - Arrive Dublin

I worked for the company you will be travelling with through the Rockies and to Whistler (btw it's not an express train) and while it is definitely one of the most expensive ways to see Canada, you are going to have a fantastic time!! I was pretty lucky and was able to take the train as part of my job and it was an amazing experience.
