Ok I have booked a flight to birmingham from dublin in march. But now i will be working in Spain so I was planning on flying direct from Spain to Birmingham and then using my return ticket from dublin-> birmingham to fly home.

My gf says Aer lingus will not let me do this and that i need to be on the dublin ->birmingham leg to be allowed on the birmingham ->dublin leg, any ideas?

Cannot see it being a problem. I've had multiple sets of return flights booked previously due to not knowing exactly what my plans were going to be six months in advance so then only actually used one leg of each booking when it came to it.

I know with transatlantic flights if you miss one leg they cancel all of them. Don't know the situation with aer lingus, presume you've booked this online. Give them a call and ask,

No, not true. I have done similar with Aer Lingus and had no problems - most recently to Amsterdam. Some airlines will cancel return (usually only on long haul) if outbound is missed, but not Aer Lingus.

Some non-budget airlines insist on this, but Aer Lingus is now a budget airline,
so each leg is effectively independant form the other..
