an effects pedal with 5 or 6 controls on it that supports vst plugins, i.e. its got some kind of memory card on it that can be connected to a laptop to update or transfer new effects....? such as a ringmodulator or fuzz distortation?

    or a

pedal that can control a laptop and change effects and also turn on and off selected effect?

I presume some kind of midi controller could do some of that, you would need certain software for it to work though.

I did a pretty extensive search for something like this. VST platforms are not simple at all, and it's not a matter of sticking a cheap dsp into a pedal chassis with some jacks and flash memory unfortunately.

The Muse Receptor is the best device I've come across. But it ain't cheap.

You could probably use a MIDI controller pedal board to trigger effects inside a sequencer on a laptop. But latencies tend to make realtime effects and realtime switching somewhat prohibitive.
