Yes I ref. But my advice would be to keep on playing at that age. Play for as long as you can before thinking about reffing. The more experience you have the better. You do get a lot of abuse as a ref especially at the lower levels, especially from the poorer teams. If you are a member of a club, ask them can you ref their U12 team.

The amout of power that you can wield over mouthy sideline parents at schools level is awesome, especially when they get out of line.

Seriously though, get proper guidance. Schoolboy refereeing has a few more hazards and higher levels of duty of care attaching to it that do not arise so much at club level.

Good luck with it. May be you will be the next famous and very young referee like that famous Welsh chap of many years ago - Gwynn Walters ??

Are you short sighted? Is your decision making process highly inconsistant? Is your understanding of the rules of the game vague to the point of embarassing? Are your parents cousins? Does your mother put "it" about with the fans? Do you exhibit the lack of a spine whilst around the home fans?
If the answers to all these questions are "Yes", despite your tender years, you could find yourself reffing a Magners League match by the end of the season.

You have presumed too much then. I have read them, and the proposed Stellenbosch ammendments. I've even studied the referee's signals book so I know what infringements have occurred.
It was just a light hearted poke at refs. No need to take offence because I used the word "rules". Fair play to anyone who refs. I wouldn't even dream of doing it.
