I've always known it as a hurl, but I've been reliably informed by the daughter of a hurley-maker, that it is indeed called a hurley.

She says that only Dubs call them hurls.

So, I thought I'd put it to Boards to see what the consensus is.

    I call it a.... 44 votes

I'm a Dub and indeed call it a hurl but one of the men that ran a course I attended called it a hurl as well and he's a Clare man.

I would call it a hurl and I would be insulted if you said I was from Dublin :p Don't really think it matters.

Always called it a hurl - and I'm not a Dub. I would be surprised if anyone called it a hurley 30 years ago (not where I come from anyway!) but you hear both used now.

Used always be a hurley growing up in Cork...now in Dublin (and when I talk to other lads from around leinster) it seems to be a hurl..

I've used all three, a hurley, a hurl and a caman.

"Have you got your hurley with you" ...
"Pass me over that hurl, would ye?" ...
    "Who's hurl is that?" ....
"It went in off his hurley" ....

    Hurl has other uses, eg:
"Lets go out for a hurl" ......

"Lets go for a few pocs" .... (pucks?)

Who cares really as long as we all understand each other.
