I'm listening to her on TodayFm, its playing on the radio behind me in work.
Genuinely shocked anyone let her on this show.

Is there a rule somewhere that forbids people from saying the word "like" 3000 times per sentence?

There was little or no humour in anything she said in the past ten minutes, she was rather mean actually.

Update : someone just turned off the radio.

Maeve Higgins is a one-line joke that's gone on for three thousand lines. I did like her from todayfm and naked camera, saw her live : MUCK. One piece of advice. A cork accent is always funny, but it's never funny enough. Like.

Thankfully I haven't heard Ray Darcy in a while, but when I used to listen she drove me mad. She just babbles on about really stupid crap, I fail to see how anyone could find her remotely funny.

She is not funny in the slightest, it baffles me how she is given airtime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

If they get rid of her they'll have to find something else to fill the time with. It's about the only time during the week that Ray is talked down. She's still on the show because they "discovered her" when they drove 'round the country lookin' for the next stand up comic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,770 ✭✭✭shockwave

Paddy Power should start taking bets on how many times she'll say the word "LIKE" in a ten minute period.

Comedian me hole!! I cant listen to her I have to switch off or my blood pressure goes through the roof.

Unfunny and Ray feels he must preform canned laughter, very sad and fake, not good for national radio especially since she has a weekly spot. Still, she needs a wage so one can not begruge her that, if she can get away with it weekly, good on her.

I have never found that girl funny. She's a bit like a friend of yours that thinks they're funny and make lame jokes but you can normally tell them to stop. With her on the radio, not a hope of that unfortunately unless everybody rings and texts in telling her to shut up which Ray wouldn't allow.

I have a friend who's seen her live and likes her for some reason. I know he's not taking the piss but I just can't believe him.

If you do end up laughing, which is very rare, it's at her and not with her.

She needs to go back to the local post office pronto and leave comedy for people who are funny.

I have to strongly disagree here. She got where she is today because people out there do find her funny. Her Vicar Street gig was almost sold out and the crowd were in stitiches. Each to their own. Taste in comedy is subjective like any other "art" form, if you can call it that.

Come off it, it doesnt take alot to sell out vicar street. Didnt Tommy Tiernan sell it out 20 dates in a row??

Good comedians like Billy Connolly could sell 100 nights in a row there should they wish.

Takes even less to "almost" sell it out...

Have to say that her stuff can be hit or miss - either VERY funny or fairly lame.....that said, it's a lot better than most stuff that's on TV that's supposed to be funny, e.g.

    Makin' Jake
    Dan & Becs
    Katherine Lynch's Working Girls

    etc, etc...

One trick pony, only accent and comedy to even rival Deirdre o'Kane for annoyance.

as someone said , funny is subjective

    but being totally honest here

i always thought the punchline was the she was not funny?

i.e , shes an anit-joke , "meta humour" if you will?

as in , shes funny the same way napoleon dynamite is funny - becuase she an unfunny sack of unfuniness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

I don't thnk you can compare Napoleon Dynamite to her to be honest. There were several very funny scenes in that film i.e. when he tries to jump the ramp on Pedro's bike.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33 DouglasWinthrow

yeah , i agree , the difference is that napopleon dynamite is hilarious , becuase the anti humour is used extremely well

however higgins doesnt seem to quite have it , but hey , at least PJ gallagher came out of that show

    he is funny

She is a bit of a waste of space but Ray's show has gone down the pan anyway so she fits in.

I like the update in the OP. :D

i always liked her on rays show, then saw her live that was that, havent listened to her since

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,327 ✭✭✭Profiler

I saw footage of her on Stage once and she was very poor.

She looked and talked like she was like very nervous like, so like she was like totally like out of place like.

She was like, not funny like

Yep... Never found her funny... Load of old pony imo... But then, she's on Ray D'arcy... What do you expect? Cutting edge comedy?

i prefer David O Doherty who she usually warms up for...

Agreed. David O'Doherty is class. I went to see Tommy Tiernan a few years ago in the Marquee in Cork, DOD was on for like half an hour, and he totally outshone Tiernan...

As for Maeve, she's ok, very dry & deadpan, not hillarious though (wouldn't pay money to see her)

Dan and Becks is irreverent humour at its best. And Working Girls was one of the best new shows RTE had in a long time.

Listened to Maeve Higgins several times on Darcy's show, not once did i raise a chuckle. She's just annoying, full stop.

Is she still on Darcy's show? I really cant understand how that is, she is rubbish. She says stupid things and trys to make them funny by using her cork acccent.

As for David O'Doherty, I agree with the comments above...he is class

What? I like Maeve Higgins, she's the craic, like. But I bet she's not funny after like ten minutes. The radio suits her I think. And I like Ray's show too, sure he plays the Ramones often and that can't be bad.

Who annoys me on Ray is Lucy from Heat. And the way fell's keep texting that she's a ride and that is mad, like who'd fancy some -one who sounds like she swalowed a load of raser blades?

Yeah, she was away in Australia or somewhere I think, but she was back on his show last week.

    Hi Maeve

You should try the stand up comic thing yourself. That was very original and absolutely hillarious.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

Heh. I actually texted in on the day with a rather sarky message, can't remember the content but it was in the context of an earlier piece, and asked if she said like a lot like (or words to that effect).

I assume they didn't read it out, as I gave up listening at that point.

agreed, adored this show for the subtle stuff, have watched the dvd loads, the script was genius, and theres lots of nods to comedy classics like seinfeld, alan partridge, curb your enthusiasm. And if people dont rate those as comedy, then they can stick to watching their two and a half men.

As for David O'Doherty, I agree with the comments above...he is class
best comedian in the country by far, honest, open, and gifted.

Would have thought there was a limit to how much of her I could take, but went to see her live show and it was a great night!
