Looks different to me, was there not some orange plastic on the original?

I saw a site where someone made one of these for real, though I dont know if it fired. Its based on some rifle parts and a cops revolver frame, cant remember the details.

Why would anyone want such an ugly pistol?

    heretic!!

What makes that above linked version look "off" to me is the shape of the pistol grip and the fact that it's a snub-nose variant on Deckards. It makes the gun look an odd shape.

    Here's the original:

Oh wow, that brings back memories, it's such an odd looking unit, I never even considered it as an airsoft capable unit! Excellent. One for the wall I'd imagine rather than the holster. Now we need to petition these fine craftsmen to make various others. Like Judge Dredds omni-gun and the Stormtrooper Repeater.

Omni gun? I'm not sure what that gun is.

    Lawgiver perhaps...

I have to say I was looking for an airsoft version or replica if the Blade Runner blaster gun ever since a guy from work asked if there was such a thing and I had a look... so nice I think. Problem is decent replicas are nearly $400.

That's the one, the Mk2, I thought it was called the omni-gun or the omni-pistol? Omni something anyway? I'm sure I read that somewhere? Maybe it was one of those technical full names for it that was only mentioned once.

I'm surprised one hasn't been made or at least a conversion kit for it at least. It's basically beretta 92 underneath converted to full auto so any hfc model would work as the base model.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

I've seen full scale models of it. You could quite easily fit a Mini MosCart launcher into the foregrip under the barrel, given the "real" thing did have a launcher there.

I see blades' mac in the above pic :D

Edit and robocops thing too in the other.

/me watches a tumbleweed blow past as silence descends upon the entire internet

Dude, that's like saying "who the f*ck is this "God" person I keep hearing about?" Absolute heresy!!

Blade Runner is considered one of THE sci-fi films to have in your collection, and when it was released, altered the status-quo of sci-fi in cinema from happy-happy and "clean" to a more grim and dirty possible reality. The filming of it in a "film noir"-esque style added to the dirty, seedy look of the not so distant future. There's a lot of morality questions in it as well concerning how humanity views life and what kind of cynical value we sometimes place on it.

I actually had a little image in my head of every user in the internet going quiet and slowly turning to all looking in one direction. I want a tumbleweed for situations like that.

Blade Runner is one of those iconic movies you must see. You can pick the regular non-special-packaging-and-shiny-extras version up in HMV or Zavvi (new name for Virgin) for the same price as renting it. It's worth it though. It's got Harrison Ford and replicants, what more do you want?

That's what happened. A silence suddenly descended upon the Internet, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

Aliens is a great film but uses a number of chromakey shots which are special effects. Blade runner uses only model shots and matt painting backrounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

it still looks cool , not like most of the cgi offerings thats look so fake these days

I agree, the CSO effects in Aliens is confined to only about 4 or 5 shots so it doesn't intrude on the movie like many other 80's sci-fi films. Just saying that Bladerunner uses entirely on camera effects, the last Sci-fi to do so.

True, but much of the film [Aliens] is all model and prop-based. There are a few special shots that would be considered early cgi, but not many. Consider as well that Blade Runner was shot on a budget of some estimated $28m, compared with $18m for Aliens. Not bad going :)

tim burtons batman is a good example of no need for cgi
might be an idea to take this to the off topic thread

Overrated futuristic bounty hunting movie released in 1982 (God that makes me feel old). You can probably pick it up on dvd in some run-down flea market for about €1.

Oh, and why is this thread turning into the 'Ugly Gun Pictures' thread?

Sure, I'm not disrespecting Aliens by any stretch of the imagination. I love Aliens almost as much as Alien (One of my favourate films) Regarding the budget, Bladerunner had much more difficult loacations to shoot then Aliens the street shots in Bladerunner where actual outdoor sets subject to light and the weather where most of aliens is filmed on a small amout of indoor sets. The fact that Bladerunner got made to the level it ended up at for $28 mil is very impressive. Of course Alien was a much greater success in the boxoffice but imo that was due to it being a straight up action movie and a sequel to the successfull Alien.
