The boots are about the most important bit of skiing kit that you'll have and once you know that you'll be going again, and can afford them, there is no reason not to buy your own. I think i got mine part way through my third week on snow.

If you've got the bug, get your own. Don't bother getting a beginner level boot as you'll be gone past them too fast.

If you're getting lessons the next time you go, then ask your instructor for some advice on what to look for in a boot, and about decent shops in the resort.

At this stage, rent boots, but pay a bit extra and rent good ones.

Wait until you are a good intermediate before you buy.

Just about any resort will suit you. You may find that some of the big name expensive ones like Val d'Isere are a bit of a waste as you won't get skiing it all.
