Mink Trapping and Grey Squirrel hunting and trapping?

Does any body know if Coillte or Dúchas will provide any information on hunting problem species such as Grey squirrel and mink.. Surely some body out there knows the official spin on this prob..
Do they ( Gov bodies) even think that a prob exists, Fishermen say there is a big prob with mink and others have noticed that rabbit numbers are dropping all around the country ( i believe the mink attack rabbits and birds etc)

    GREY'S---
Wouldn't it be clever to use air rifles in the woods, say 18 ft lbs these would be just enough to do the trick and would be quite enough so as not to alarm other forest users.. i know that it would be madness to fire a .22lr sub sonic in to the overhead tree branches and perhaps even an 18 ft lbs air rifle is too much maybe a 12 ft lbs would do... this type of activity would provide great sport for hunters and at the same time would help protect or broadleaved forests..

    Mink
i know plenty of folk who'd jump at the chance to set traps in areas with heavy mink problems even if they were remote. I'd expect an endorsement from the likes of the tousist Bord and the fishery Bord on this policy. This might help other species such as rabbit and trout but to mention a few..
More rabbits would be good for all.. Farmers would be glad to see folk willing to give up their day to help with the shoot.. Fox numbers might increase..
Imagen a country where land owners welcomed hunters with open arms:rolleyes:
What can we do about this who do we contact???????

I love your train of thought, but since our green minister wanted to "issue contraceptives" to the grey squirrels you will need to wait untill at least there is a change, even better a minister who shoots.

What can we do, run our very own TD;)

the only trapping thats goin on is locally based bt shoots/clubs etc.
Mink cause so much damage its unbelievable ducks, rabbits, birds, poultry and fish are all wiped out in a matter of a year or two with a pair of resident mink!
    kill on sight IMO!

Surly then local gun clubs would be in favor of mink trappers working in a field near them:D if any one would like mink trapped in there area and they have access to the land in question the send a pm.. hope i don't get too big of a request.. These mink must be rife in the coillte evergreen woods.. anybody know any body in coillte:confused:
And what is the story with the minsters contraceptive plan on grays- how does it work.

as i do a lot of river fishing i've seen the damage done by mink and it really is bad particularly to waterbirds , i'd imagine if you contact local fishing clubs to see if you could give a hand if they have problems with them , with permission ,you could use discreet mk6 fenn traps in tunnels by drains or along runs. something thats every bit as bad is the cormorant population though i think they 're protected , as for mink the only good ones a dead one

Were a lot of mink release from fur farms in the past, isn't this what caused the population burst and increased damage, more damage done by releasing them
