The best free kick - not what you think

Right, this is semi rant, semi question.

Just got redirected to 101 great goals list of best free kicks in the PL. Surprise surprise, they're all scored by Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Le Tiss.

I remember a free kick 2, maybe 3 years ago. I'm actually not sure if it was in the premiership or the championship but the only thing I've ever seen comparable to it was Carlos against France. Same position, same curl, same result. Far far superior to anything from any of the above(cept maybe le tiss). Anyone know who I'm talking about.

Please nobody come in here and say that Ronaldo's FK last week was the best FK ever in the premiership. Not even the best this season

Is "best free kick" a stat that can be proven now?

Opinion and hear'say is a kind of statistic?

    and it begins!!!

I'm looking for an answer to a specific question Free kick, would remind you of Carlos' one, taken in lower reached of premiership(I think the championship actually). I actually want to know what it is so I can shut up the Cantona's was better that Ronaldo's was better than Gerard's bunch.

I'm terribly biased but I honestly would say Naka's vs Man Utd.

He had scored a freekick in a similar position in the away leg against them so expectations were higher.

All the neutrals I watched it with wrote it off saying it was too far out.

It was in the last 10 minutes of the match at 0-0 to get Celtic to the knockout stage of the CL for the first time.

Van Der Sar knew where Naka was going to kick it.

The fact that he never replicated makes it all the more incredible.

By the way, Juninho Pernambucano is without a doubt the worlds greatest and most consistant free-kick taker. Just watch and you'll appreciate.

What a thread. So you saw a list of the best free kicks in The Premiership but you dont agree with it because you remember a free kick from a few years back that may not have been in the premiership.

Junininho.P & Sinisa.M score the best free-kicks & are real free kick experts.

It was so funny when Ferguson said Ronaldo's free kick against pompey was the best ever in the premiership & then all the Manu fans start to say it like a bunch of sheep just because Ferguson said it. Total fluke.

    In a nutshell...YEAH!!!!

What I'm trying to do is to find out what the best free kick I can remember taking place in England is. It's rather difficult though as it's not replayed constantly like some of the others are.

I don't agree with the other thing as it's a bag of sh*te, not because of one free kick.

Beckham is the best in my opinion. Here's a collection of his efforts:

Anyone know the team he scored against at 3:07? If that's from a Premier League match then I vote that the best free kick the PL has ever seen. Unstoppable.

He's known as Monsieur 50-50 because the fans say he scores as many freekicks as he misses. I would have said the same for Naka until he hit 2 freekicks against the wall in a matter of 60 seconds on Saturday. :D

Beckham compilation brought back so memorys. His freekicks were so important down the years

christ, that beckham compilation is unreal. that lad had no pace and couldnt beat players really either, but was he blessed with the sweetest right leg ever. if your looking for the best free kick scored in the premiership, theres 6 or 7 candidates in there. the sheer level of consistent brilliance is amazing. that second last one, against the scousers, was top class.

Elano v Newcastlw for this season.

Also that one from one of the South American internationals last year where the lad hit it form near the half way line. There was a thread on it but I'm too lazy to look.

Sorry but Roberto Carlos' takes some beating, especially considering the opposition. Still to this day it truly is a stunning piece of skill I've not seen bettered by anyone anywhere.
Beckham nailed the standard free kick method and scored some great goals but Carlos performed one of the most difficult things you can do with a football, outside of the foot from a deadball to get that accuracy and swerve to beat a keeper like Barthez and a wall...absolutely class.

Carlos wins and that's all there is to it, anyone who dares disagree may be labelled a mental.

Not in the Premiership, I know, but if it's a stunning free kick you want, let me nudge you in the direction of Hugo Almeida

Whatever mate... I've been to five United games so far this year and Ronaldo has scored three absolute cracking free kicks of those five. One against Sporting Lisbon, one against Sunderland and one against Pompy. Those are the ones that I can remember...

Go on, tell me that they were all flukes, you football guru.
