Last winter in very windy weather, my sky dish moved in the wind and i lost reception. I had to get the installer out to re-aligh it and he charged me €60.

It windy now again (and my dish is quite exposed) and if it happens again, i'll be really pissed.
How can you re-align a dish yourself? What piece of kit do i need and how much is it and where would i get one?

You can get a satellite signal meter. I bought a Digisat LCD signal meter nearly 2 years ago because i was having the same problem of wind moving the dish and having to fork out around €50 everytime. You don't need to get anything very fancy mine works perfectly with a Sky minidish. It has saved me and my friends a lot of money

Thanks for the help. That item seems expensive and for the professional installer. Would this item i found on ebay be of use to me a just a homeowner?

I aligned a sky dish from scratch using the onscreen display meter, dish working fine! Maybe you should either move the dish or get a more solid triax dish altogether, my triax is in a windtunnel and never shifts!

You can also get it from here:

In my opinion you get a very good / efficient service from this site.

If it's only alignment, a local guy may do it for less than €100.

You can get some idea of how to use a meter from this little movie:
