Does anyone know when Bushmills 400th anniversary edition will be available to buy.

I know that it is suppose to be available in Airports and the Distillery only.

i think any price would be right.. after a few years it would be worth a lot more.. just look at some of the prices in a certain Dawson St shop

well.. if you take a trip to the distillery in antrim.. you'll only have to pay the £50

and when your there you can do a tour as well

BTW: the midleton tour is quite good

Another whiskey to add to the collection..

With the Jameson one I bought earlier this year and the middletons I am picking up, I have a load of whiskey I cant drink without a special occasion. Soon it will be oh look its 11 o clock on a Friday evening, i think will crack open that bottle I have been saving for a while :)

I'm not sure how good an investment the Bushmills will be, as it will always be available in the distillery. It will be out in dublin in the next few weeks, I believe.

People have been putting these on eBay and selling them for stg£150. The prices have come down on eBay since, though. The sellers were lying about the availability. Con men, as far as I'm concerned.

Is it just the bottling or the whiskey thats special edition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 883 ✭✭✭Brockagh

It's both. They are using a whiskey partly made from crystal malt, which is quite novel, I believe. There's no age statement on the bottle, so there's probably some young whiskey in there.

    Lol, deadly.

I have a couple of bottles that I could not resist opening but I somehow managed not to open others. Although I have a 21 yr old bottle of Glenfiddich Gran Reserva that I'm fighting not to open right now but, temptation is getting stronger!

That's a bit steep! I got an email from Bushmills that said the suggested retail price was £49 which works out at about €64!. Anyway, I don't think it's exclusive to the Celtic Whiskey shop so shop around.

Yeah the 1608 is a lovely tipple! We sell it for €85 euro which is the recommended retail from Diageo I believe!

That's interesting. I'm not that keen on it, but maybe it will grow on me. I hope it will anyway.

The price seems to vary a bit, I got a bottle in an offie in Fermanagh for £47 (€60ish) but I seen it in another offie in Sligo for I think it was €94.

€79.99 in O'Briens Sandyford Industrial Estate (probably nationwide too).

Not sure whether to taste it straight away or keep it for a while. There isn't much information on the bottle as to the age, blend and casks etc, so I'm wondering whether this is just ordinary bushmills (or 10 or 16 year old) in a fancy bottle.

Also, when I saw it on the internet, it had a purple label, but this one is brown. Any ideas?

I haven't opened my bottle yet so I can't comment on the taste personally but I have heard that it is like a premium version of Black Bush. There is no age statment on the bottles though. So it is likely to be fairly young whiskey in there.

Afaik, the bottle you seen with the purple label is an older bottling called 1608 Reserve as opposed to the new 1608 400 Anniversary bottles. I think the 1608 Reserve bottles were only available from duty free shops but I'm open to correction on that.

It is made up of some oldish grain whiskey and some much younger malt whiskey. The malt portion is distilled from a mash made of crystal malt. It's a way of drying the malt that produces a different flavour, apparently. The grain would be from Middleton. They still have a deal with them to supply the grain whiskey.

I had some more last night and thought it was much niceer than the first time I tasted it.

    That is correct.

    That is correct.

Yup, two different bottles. The old 1608 was a 12 yr old blend.
