When\where are you going boarding next?

If its toward the end of the season and depending on where your going you can get some really nice deals.

I don't know anything about boards but I did see some in Tk-Maxx in Kilkenny today for 80 and 90 euro. No binding but still very cheap. There was 1 there with bindings but I didn't look at the prices.

I haven't seen the end of snow season savings but in Germany at the end of a summer season I picked up a class pair of Salomon roller blades for €125, down from €250. If that's a yard stick the end of season seems good. I couldn't comment on the link you posted as I haven't a clue of prices on good boards etc.

Im going on the 22nd of march to Livingo. Am i better off buying one there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Static M.e.

    Yes, probably.

At the end of March its very late in the season so most shops will be selling up what they can, not too mention that that Livigno is a Tax free region so prices should be even cheaper. You can also bargain with the guys in the shops because it will be late season.

I don't want to tell you what to do because you could go over and find very few boards that suit you and/or be left in a situation where you have to rent again, but if it was me, I would wait till I went over.

Another point is make sure you decide exactly what you want from the board, all mountain, powder, park etc, not to mention your exact size that you need.

Thanks static. Id class myself as intermediate but i would like to try learn a few tricks and attempt some small jumps this year. Am i right in thinking that i need a board between my collar bone and chin in length?
I wont be spending all day in the snow park though.

Hi, can anyone reccommend a few boards within the €300-350 price mark.
    Thanks

    Hi JM MARCONI,

Sorry missed your last post, check out this link which I found quite helpfull when getting my own board this year.

    hxxp://www.snowboardlengthcalculator.com/

I also found this site quite helpful because of they way they review the boards.

    hey,

For what its worth i found buying decent boots and bindings are best, a (relatively) cheap board well waxed with sharp edges and decent setup will out perform expensive badly tuned board with cheap bindings.

Experimented with a few on last holiday - Ride LX bindings on burton custom V's C60's on burton clash.. i.e. cheap bindings expensive board V's expensive bindings cheap board - expensive bindings setup won hands down -

From what i can gather length is more determined by weight than height, but shorter board = easier to turn more unstable at speed
longer board harder to turn, more stable at speed.

depends on what you are comfortable with (i went for a shorter board)

Think most of this is reflected in most that you read around.

Thanks again lads. I think the biggest problem im having is that there are so many boards to choose from.

I already have boots edmund. I forgot to say that I need to get bindings too.
Lets say if someone handed you 500squid and said buy a board and bindings, what would you all buy?

For EUR 500 i would say it would be very difficult to tell the differences between the boards from different manufacturers at that level (comparing like for like), main advantage would be that you would have a consistent board each time so you could identify exactly which one you want next time? - this would be another advantage of getting decent bindings - next time out you will only be looking at boards.

Have heard great things about Rome and GNU if you wanted to have a look at them?

This is the time to buy - end of season, if you don't mind riding last seasons boards next season?.

I'm no binding expert but I personally love my flows. They are definitely not everybody's cup of tea, but I think they're great.

I got my set-up off Irish Snowboards too JM Marconi, very nice guy. Got my board, boots and bindings for €400 together. My board is a Wild Duck. Again, not a huge expert but I've been very happy with it.

I'm currently riding my Mates K2 board which has K2 bindings. I'm no expert either but I do love this board. When I get one for myself I'm pretty sure I'll get a K2.

Paul in irishsnowboards is indeed a really nice guy.

Ok I need help badly. I went ahead and ordered the Riot from tightboards.com 3 days ago and I just got an Email saying they dont stock Bataleon anymore and would I like to pick another board.

So can anyone give me some ideas for boards please.

What about the Lib Tech Travis Rice or the TRS.

I got the TRS this year and I quite like it (You can view in Dublin if you want to see it)
