Not sure if this is the right forum....

Basically im wondering if it is possible to buy a tv tuner card for the pc and connect my sky+ box up to it - i would then like to:

    1. Store programs, films etc
    2. Playback recorded material from my sky+ box on my pc?

Is this possible and if so what is the best card to get?

    haupauge pvr500
it has dual input/output so you can record one channel and watch another.

can only output 1 channel from a sky + box at a time. so a pvr500 is a waste of time...pvr150 will save you money, single tuner version of the 500

He can always get a second Sky+ box and use it with the PVR500 to record one channel while watching another or record 2 channels at the same time.

    1. Store programs, films etc
You can store programs that you capture from the sky box by running the s-video out from the sky+ box to a card like the PVR150. The problem is you can only capture the program that is currently being shown. The advantage of sky+ is that skys technology allows you to record one program and watch something else at the same time. You will not be able to emulate this behaviour with the sky+ box to PVR150 solution.
    2. Playback recorded material from my sky+ box on my pc?
I believe this is not possible as sky encrypts all its content. Only the sky box can play the content it records.

He can but he has to pay for a second sky subscription.

If the problem is that you are running out of storage on you sky+ box you may be able to upgrade you sky+ hard disk, I haven't investigated if this is allowed by sky. It may even be illegal as you are messing with their service. But no harm in investigating.

the sky+ box has 2 tuners, logic would say just use one sky box to record the two channels, and record onto the computer what you want from that. Two sky + boxes into a pvr500 would only be using 1 tuner on each sky+ box, for no more functionality than he has with a pvr150 and 1 sky+ box. Why suggest a more expensive alternative?
