Jaysus that's some scam. They're a pretty high profile dealer.
Did you raise this with them?

The ad says 73k miles now

Looks tired for a car with "73k miles" too. It looks like a car whose mileage is the wrong side of 100k.

when did you test drive it ?

it says it has FSH! What garage is FSH with? If it's a Saab main dealer then the mileage would be genuine.

Interesting. I test drove a used 335d recently with over 60k kms on the clock recently. The guy wanted to sell that one to me but the mileage would be too high for me. The spec of the one I drove was 335d SE, montego blue, black leather, piano black interior.

A week or so later I check on Carzone and the one I test drove doesnt seem to be there anymore. However this one is with the same dealer. Note the spec, and the mileage......coincidence or dodgy??

    TheBazMan ^^.

You should have your ducks in a row before making accusations against a BMW main agent.
If I worked for that company a solicitors letter would be on its way to boards.ie early next week.

I cant ever see a BMW Main agent tampering with mileage - the franchise is too profitable to need to do that kind of thing. So many people work in a large dealership that you could never keep it quiet.

Just to be clear - I am not accusing them of anything. I spotted this a while back and didnt immediately come to boards pointing it out. It just seemed to be on topic. I agree that would be most unlikely that anything dodgy like that would be done by a main dealer. So it seems then that it was just a coincidence.

My mechanic reckoned it had 40 north of what was originally advertised.

It's also 2.0l and not 1.8 as advertised....looks suspiciously like a company car to me.

Sure main dealers are as straight as they come !

That's an odd thing with those Saab 1.8t's - yes they have 2.0 engines but the badges on the back say 1.8t. You can see the cubic capacity on the tax disc photograph.

Vevex - just because one done something wrong doesnt mean were all bad.
Attempting to price fix is wrong it denies consumers fair competition.
Clocking on the other hand is the worst thing you could do in the motor trade.
(Well , just below selling write-offs)

It defrauds your customer , throws the service intervals out , meaning a critcial item like a timing belt may not be changed at correct time.
Price fixing I'd imagine could be done by 1 person in a place at the most.
Clocking at a Main dealer would mean all sales people , sales managers , admin staff (as the mileage on stock sheet would change) , accounts staff (the bills for "mileage adjustment service" have to be paid) - even down to the car cleaners and forecourt staff as they would notice drop in mileage on such a rare car. One disgruntled employee and the whole house of cards falls down.....

I have no proof it was clocked nor am I saying it has been clocked, but the interior looks rather tired for a car with 73,000 miles on it in my opinion.(that said the light colours don't help either)

You're a bit naieve then. Expect the unexpected! There's crooks in every walk of life.

*Note: I am by no means accusing the poster's BMW dealer, or any dealer of anything, just pointing out that anything, anywhere is possible!

I test drove a 2002 9-3 from that garage in early January, L reg also. I had already done a cartell and HPI check (it was imported from UK) before looking at it. HPI check said it was exported in April 2006. It was registered in Ireland in July 2007 over a year later.

It was advertised as having 50,000 miles but the interior looked as if it had way over 100k. When I asked the guy for the service history he said it was in their other garage. When I said I would drive over to have a look at it he said that the documents were lost. When I asked him where they got the car from he said a friend of the garage owners son traded it in against a passat. I asked him to ring the owner to find out where it was serviced last so I could verify mileage but he just kept making excuses.

I'm not saying the car was clocked but I would be very surprised if it wasn't.

your mechanic???? would you not just do a cartell check on it??? and its very easy to make a mistake when typeing in milage, not even dealers can be perfect people.
