    Ok
I really liked this episode for a few reasons; First off it was earth based which I think Atlantis could use a few more of every so often, secondly it revealed a lot of Sheppard's background; thirdly it involved a kick ass replicator hunt and finally it tied up the lose ends of the last earth episode.

It was no harm either to let Rodney sit this one out as he has been getting a lot of screen time in the last few eps. As for Tayla, no great loss :)

Who knew Sheppard's father was a utilities mogul  His brother was kind of cool; i've seen that actor in some forgettable stuff before. And as for his ex-wife , phoarrrrr. More screen time for her please.

I had the feeling the girl was a replicator from the start when she was looking at them at the funeral, seemed likely after the previously bit at the start. The replicator chase scenes were pretty cool, had a T1000 feel to it. Dr. Lee with the sunburn :D that guy doesn't have any luck.

It was a nice ending; the re-entry effects were well done and putting the girl's program in VR was a fairly stargate ending; reminding me of that star trek:tng ep with professor Moriarty "ship in a bottle".

    Solid ep: 8/10

As Earth-based episodes go, this one was pretty decent. We got to see a bit more background on Sheppard's life and we saw some of the consequences of a previous episode.
On the downside, it was replicator related. Again. Seriously, we need to look at different types of enemy a bit more!
Still there was a fairly decent pace to it and some reasonable moments in it, so as a cost-cutting exercise (which let's face it, most of these earth episodes are) it was grand - thank fudge no mention of the Trust or anything like it!

Liked this one , especially the Sheppard backstory. I agree on the replicator once again but nicely wrapped up. There was also enough lo-tech action to keep it going.

Nice all round filler again - I wouldn'y mind a few on the same story path for a few Eps though:o

And as for his ex-wife , phoarrrrr.
Aye kari Wuhrer has been top of my "phoarrrr" list for quite a few years now. She's starting to look her age now but ya still would ;)

It's nice that the filler isn't totally garbage for a change (this season been pretty good really in that regards). All these episodes seem to give the main characters a break. Ronan last week, Rodney this week, John next week? :p

    Good
Solid episode. The ending also reminded me of The Ship in a Bottle :)

I like what theyve been doing lately by pairing off members of the team like that - i likes character development. Be interesting to see if they dare to take Sheppard out of one, much of a good character as he is. People used to hate Ronan, and now, I think I like him better than Teal'c. There, I said it. Post time-bubble, gran daddy Teal'c will never be the same anyway.

It was good of them to bring back old faces. Prefer to see much more of it but then I guess it wouldn't be special.

As for the fight sccenes: wahey - those beat the craps out of that new Bionic Woman, and the production team probably didnt even have to try - seemed quite thrown together but it worked well enough.

"I told you I have an ex-wife, right?"

9/10. Solid episode. Hope to see more Earth/MilkyWay based episodes.

    Ok
When I seen it was on earth I prepared for the worst, but it was actually fairly enjoyable. Some nice things to look at too, yum.

Good to see Ronan getting some actually character, god forbid, and Johns back story wasnt what I was expecting at all. The fight in the warehouse was pretty decent too, for a sci-fi punchup them 2 replicators put on a good show. Its also nice to see them make Dr. Lee competant again aswell, they make him out to be a bit of an idiot way too often. The sunburn was rather amusing though, heh.

Wasnt too bothered that they reused to replicator story, this time it made a degree of sense at least, but I didnt like how they killed him in the end, a human in a space suit can survive low orbit re-entry, its just friction, yet this guy burnt up after falling about 30 feet, which was fairly rediculous. Otherwise solid episode.

It got ridiculous before or after they beamed a replicator into space? ;)

Solid episode, starting to really like Ronan now, still cant wait for when he and Teal'c have their episode together :D

Ye was that not supposed to be episode 3 orginally? :(

Ive been waiting for it as long as this season has been out.

As everyone else said, good for an earth bound episode.

It was nice to see the return of Bates but their explanation to his departure was ****e.

Sheppards backstory was good too but him being married seems weird.

    Ok
Teal'c and Ronon together... It has to happen sooner rather than later, please!! For the comic value alone it would be excellent

And Shepperd is starting to get a bit more totty related story lines, I'm liking that. What was the female captain's name again... Jill Wagner - yum! Kari Wuhrer - yum!..... As Joey once siad - "put yours hands together!":D

I thought it was pretty good, predictable but the production quality and script held it together quite well.

Em, besides the fact that a space suit would not protect against the heat of re-entry, it has never even been tried. Not to mention that little gravity/hitting the earth thing at the end. Where did you come up with this wee factoid?

    Ok
Hmm actually on a side note, aren't replicators all made of the same material as their ships/buildings etc are? So you'd assume if they are, and that there ships would be designed able to complete re-entry, so a replicator made of the same material should be able to survive it.

If not, then a man in a space suit would burn up in re-entry, if he didnt he'd still get liquefied inside the suit.

Not to mention this guy was made on Earth from who knows what material.

    Ok
Re-entry is just the friction of the air, a person will reach terminal velocity after a few hundred metres of free fall, a single person simply wont get fast enough, and at that altitude it would take a good long time for a human sized replicator to reach terminal velocity as he would accelerate much slower that far from the earths surface, unless he was super super dense or was moving very very quickly when he hit the atmosphere.

Could they not just have beamed him as close as possible to the sun and let gravity take it's course.

    Ok
I thought they were going to beam him into a volcano after someone mentioned one, rodney I think. I was disappointed.

On a vaguely-related note, RTE have a science article about firing a paper plane from space to earth. It's related because it mentions the whole thing about re-entry and friction not causing the paper to burn up. URL="http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0206/space.html"]LINK[/URL:
A spacecraft made of folded paper may sound far-fetched, but Japanese scientists believe it could be possible for a paper plane launched from space to reach Earth intact.

Researchers at the University of Tokyo have tested small, origami planes made of special paper for 30 seconds in 250-degree Celsius heat and wind at seven times the speed of sound.

The planes survived the wind tunnel test intact.

The theory is that paper craft, being much lighter than space shuttles, may escape the worst of the friction and heat that much heavier space shuttles face on re-entry to the atmosphere.

'Paper planes are extremely light so they slow down when the air is thin and can gradually descend,' said Shinji Suzuki, a professor of aerospace engineering.

Mr Shinji said the technology might one day be used for unmanned spacecraft.

The team has asked a Japanese astronaut to release the 20cm long planes, made from paper chemically treated to resist heat and water, from the International Space Station to see if they make it back to Earth.

It will take several months for the craft to reach Earth and there is no way to predict their landing spot if they make it.

'It's going to be the space version of a message in a bottle. It will be great if someone picks one up,' he said.

'We are thinking of writing messages on the planes saying 'if found, please contact us' in a couple of languages.'

    Ok
All the facts without the story_island div advertisement which RTE enjoy so much, thanks ixoy. I saw that story during the week. I doubt the replicator would burn up unless he was maybe super dense as someone said. Their science advisor was asleep on the job. Was really expecting a volcano. :(

In fairness, I'd be pretty sure they don't have a science advisor anymore.

They let their military advisor go a few years back because sci fi keeps cutting their budget.
