Emigrating - want to contract with existing employer

I'm emigrating (to Oz) at the end of the month and handed in my notice a couple of weeks ago. Nearly emigrating against my will (professionally) so I offered to work contract when I do go.

I've heard something about not being able to do that until a year has elapsed (UK law)?

Does anybody know anything about this kind of stuff? It's a multinational org (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, plus more) in case anyone knows of a back door failing a domestic solution.

OP - You're post isn't very clear to be honest, but why would UK law prevent you from contracting with this company in Australia? Particularly for someone whom I presume is an Irish citizen work for said company in Ireland.

You say that you've made this offer to the company already. If that is the case then surely their HR department would be able to advise you further if needs be.
