What happened to the Dublin GAA discussion thread?

    Pullleeeaaasse,

We don't want to soccerise this forum now do we.

Might as well keep up this thread seen as how its relevent.I don't think Dublin will win with the same ease as they did three weeks ago.Westmeaths midfield is strengthened with the return of David Duffy (my cousin :D) so that might be worth 2-3 points but I'm still expecting a reasonably comfortable win for Dublin.Probably about 7 points in the difference I'd imagine.

Anybody up for a boards beers? We're going to Kitty Kiernans after the game for a few assuming most of you won't be too hammered after the Ireland v Italy game.

    Forza Irlanda e Dublino.:D:D

When the opening post asks what time the match "kicks off at" we most certainly are in danger of soccerising the forum. Anyway, after the game, we'll be in Kitty's as Blackbelt says. Hopefully some of you will join us.

All the OP wants to know is what time the bloody match starts!

I do wonder about how the minds of GAA-heads work when you all seem to get into a lather about an innocent question like that. Why do GAA types not accept that lots of the general public like lots of sports, including GAA, Soccer and gasp - Rugby!

After all they must be making a few bob at Pairc an Chrocaigh today... ;)

By mentioning Croke Park today am I in danger of 'rugbyising the board'??

According to RTE teletext Dublin won by 2. I'd take that as league form has been poor the past few seasons, hence we are in division 2. Apparently Kildare drew with Tyrone away from home, a good result for the geezer.

I'm away and only read reports of the game. But we didn't sound great. I'm not a fan of Moran in CB.

Were there many at the game in Parnell Park? What kind of attendaces do the Dubs get at league games these days. Is there any problem getting tickets for them or can you just turn up on the night??

Us "GAA types" are part of the general public that like lots of sports, including GAA, Soccer and Rugby! We had a good night at the Gaelic football match last night, but we also took great pleasure in the result in Twickenham, our win in Croke Park - which some of us were at - and some of the results in the soccer yesterday.

There was a reasonable crowd, not huge. You'd have got a ticket if you came along. We then had our GAA Beers afterwards, and a good and late night was had by all. :)

Lather?I don't see anybody getting into a lather. We're just poking fuin that the OP asked for kickoff time instead of throw in time and the fact that the soccer forum has a thread for each team.:D:D

Anyway,in response to the last post. You'd get in easy enough alright although there can be a scramble to get into the stand. The bastards at the turnstiles robbed me of three euro when I produced my pass at the stand turnstiles even if it had terrace on it which I had forgotten about. They're tight bastards.I was asked to give two euro and I handed them a tenner and got seven back in coins. So beware of the retarded turnstile operators.Had I not been in a rush and realised sooner,I would have gave out stink.Small fry sh1t as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, the support was very good I thought.Parnell Park was packed and had a good atmosphere.

On the game itself, poor showing from the Dubs.We didn't play well just like the Irish rugby team but still managed to win and thats the main thing.Round one of the league is a lot to ask for championship calibre performances but I left Parnell Park satisfied with how the new, young lads played. They were the real story I thought.Vaughan was excellent with the free kicks but didn't seem to shine in open play.Keaney and Jayo were kept reasonably quiet.Fennell had an excellent game as did Shane Ryan given the circumstances that David Duffy towered over him.It shows that height is not always the deciding factor.

From a Westmeath point of view, the half back line were excellent.First to the ball on a lot of the occasions which left the Dub fans very frustrated at times.Flanagan and Boyle were good for some decent spells of the game mopping up in defence.David Duffy had an excellent first half I thought but didn't shine as bright in the second half.He won a good bit of the aerial battle but didn't seem to be able to make much ground with the ball and usually ended up having to pass it on.A lot of Westmeaths attacks came to an abrupt halt when they'd kick the ball way off and over the end line. Can't afford to give teams like Meath and Cork those chances.Dolan had a good first half too and soundly beat Cluxton for that goal.

Was concerned for Shane Ryan at the end.He took a knock and this is the second time this has happened to him against Westmeath.I hope he is ok.

Westmeath seemed to match Dublin in the physical stakes but their players went down a lot to.Standard of refereeing was good although Westmeaths number 13 should have been sent off in my opinion and there was an incident where there was an attempted kick which also merits a red card.He seemed to be doing a fantastic job at the start but some incidents brought him down a bit.Wasn't an easy game to ref at times.Still, the ref was satisfactory and did a good job.

Still, won't complain.Early February and still won with a pretty unimpressive performance.A lot of improvement but the young lads will rise to the occasion even more I'd imagine.Still won without the services of the Brogans.

I think Westmeath will survive Division 2.I think they should account for Cavan and Roscommon and give Armagh a good game if they play like they did in the first half yesterday consistently throughout their matches for 70 mins.Their defence was excellent and made it very hard for Dublin to get into good scoring spaces hence the low scores.A very awkward outfit to play against.I reckon both managers will have taken a lot of positives from the game even if some of the play was dire at times.

Thanks for that Blackbelt excellent report as usual. I was pleased with the result even though we lost.
