My cousin is a professional player*, however I'm not sure how it would work considering the republic's severe lack of ice. Dundalk is a long way to travel for training.

Ice time (and quality) is a problem. Also the initial outlay for equipment etc (see the discussion on the American Football thread about the fact that the sports budget is fairly fixed, as opposed to other institutions where start-up money seems to flow freely). But good luck!

(I don't play, but I'm a long-distance follower of the Maple Leafs. Anyone can do better than they're doing this season. Even a Trinity team with no ice or money...)

what about rollerhockey! that would be fun, and no ice needed! if thats not a club by next year, im starting it up.

you can call yourselves 'The Mighty DUHCs'

    DUHC being DU Hockey Club

i signed up to boards.ie just to respond to this thread.

i would kill to play some full equipment ice hockey. typical canadian behavour, i know--but, i think it would be fun (and easier to get going) if we were able to play what we call 'shinny' in canada...

for those not familiar with shinny URL]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinny[/URL, it just requires basically ice skates and a stick.. and there's no real body contact and the puck doesnt leave the ice.. but it's what we play on outdoor rinks back home, since we'll have kids to senior citizens playing..

im here for a few years, so id be more than willing to help out or spearhead a campaign to grow ice hockey at tcd, or even in dublin..

There are 2 teams in Dublin already the wolves and the rams, I just thought a tcd team would catch on because there could be a great college league in the neear future!

Id absolutely love to play ice hockey. Great game.

Thing is no way am I gonna be able to go out and spend the hundreds on the gear required and if everyone has to do that it will have a hard time taking off.

That shinny is a great idea though. Set a time and a place and people can come along....wouldnt even need ice skates as you could rent them there.
