You may find the definition of decent music varies. I know nowhere in dub that plays what you're looking for. Good luck.

not the biggest fan of hearing the same 'best indie album in the world ever' on rotation but sometimes it better than nothing. Surely Whelans or any of the plethora of bars on wexford st. play this stuff?

Whelans is the only place for this.. that or a time machine..

I cant stand all the R&B ****e, not just the music but the attitude that goes with it, everyone trying so hard to be cool.

Doyle's on the weekend = indie, rock, classic soul, funk, odd bit of new wave and country, etc.
So if you like Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon, Aretha, Johnny Cash etc etc etc, it's good

they try to play up to their soviet image by playing joy division, interpol and the smiths on repeat. because they clearly think those bands are so bloody dark and must sound like a soundtrack to east berlin. they are wrong of course and if thats what they want to project they should play some of the great aussie bands that setteld in Germany in the 80's like crime and the city solution

if you want good music you need a bar with a jukebox.

Downstairs in The International bar has a majestic jukebox as does Smiths in Fairview for some strange reason, the image of a few confused auld lads sitting at the bar sipping on their Guinness as 'Debaser' blared out all around then is one that won't be leaving me for a while.

I'm a big fan of downstairs in the National, great jukebox…. although I inadvertently started a racist chant the other day when I put on "Rise" by Public Image ltd, some beared man kept shouting "Thank F**k" after the line "I could be white". They used to have a guy called Ken Murphy playing downstairs on Wednesdays (I think...) he'd get dressed up in Glam Rock attire, get up on tables ‘given it socks.

Have you ever been to an indie club?

I know of no other genre that attracts so many people, with the attitude you described. Tons of people looking miserable and trying to be more alternative to everyone else.

What's that Chemistry in Spy like?

Theres a decent enough Jukebox in "The Hairy Lemon", the music blasts out pretty loud too! :)
