Freelance Copywriting

I've just started a career in marketing and PR but am discovering that my talents lie in writing.

I want to stay on in my current job because I've only been doing it a few months and it's great experience. However, I was thinking of doing some freelance copy writing on the side to build up a bit of a portfolio.

Does anybody have any tips on how to set up?
Or the best way to go about it?

    Thanks

Hmm... initially its all about getting your name out there and recommendations ...

Get yourself business cards to begin with :D .. and pass them out like they are candies ..
(shows you are serious enough to have business cards ... so you're not just a cowboy saying I can do this)

There was actually a thread over on the irish web master forum today looking for content writers ... well more wondering about the rates to charge ...

    http://www.irishwebmasterforum.com/professional-chat/3614-content-writer-recommendations.html

you might find it interesting ... it links to elance and a few other sites which might be worth your while joining

apart from that get a website ... show / prove you've got good writing skills to potential clients ..

(yes I've an extra motive saying get a website ... but its an extremely cost effective way of showcasing yourself)

Word of mouth will also be one of your biggest friends ... I've asked before about content writers and people recommend people

Good luck with it all :)

Ah damn hadn't realised when I'd posted (have the RSS feed setup so I'm not even looking what forums on there I'm posting in) if I'd seen the professional bit I'd have realised but I'm watching a movie on the other screen :D ATM

Ah well ... who knows they might sign up ... tell them forbairt sent you :D
