Too Much information-- finding the Truth

Is is just me but does anyone else think that the amount on available information on the paranormal now takes some of the magic away from it?

To tell you the truth I found finding free pod casts, videos, EVPs etc to listen to on line great, but now much like Converse All star boots "They are everywhere"
Real footage and spoofed up footage are all mixed up into one big pile, it's hard to get excited about an EVP unless you were actually there when it was recorded.

Countless on line Radio shows, clips, audio and video , plus all the books. I tend to only read books by guys who have been at it for a good while as I have tried some of the newer ones and they are just the same as the old ones but worded differently.

So IMO there is a challenge to anyone interested in investigating the Paranormal today, and that is finding the truth, the real information, and it's not just about paranormal truth its about finding the true investigators, over and above finding out what is and is not a hoax
    .
    spoofing up stories
    bending reports to match findings
Being just too sure about a controlled environment
Pretending to be open minded but knocking down evey possible suggestion until what's is left renders the "media" to be gererated under the influence of something paranormal
Evidence is another one, its not evidence if its so easily disputed, it's footage, recording, reports etc.

Anyway that's my rant over, I'm very slow to accept what is up there on the INTERNET TBH, I know most of us always were but IMO its worse then ever now.

What's the opinion of the community?

I find that with some investigators, particularly those on youtube ect ignore the probable natural causes in EVP or photgraphy to lend weight to their investigations. Perhaps in an attempt to validate to themselves their pursuits.

You're spot on Stoner. How can there be proof unless we know what we are looking for proof of? When people say evidence what are they claiming it is evidence of?

On a personal note I work with the people I do (Stoner included) because at the end of a very long night they are prepared to say "We got Fcuk all!". So many people give into the pressure of getting results.

In most cases there are no answers so all we can do is ask good questions.

Also phrases and explainations that have been around for a while seem to just be the accepted lines, especially on the likes of orbs, poltergeist etc but people need to start questioning the whole language of the paranormal - I mean who ever said orbs were spirits? Whats that based on?

Btw, my converse look great on me! ;)

Anything thats this difficult must be worth doing, guys. The hardest battle is not to get disillusioned or cynical.

And the internet is full of shite on every subject, not just this one. You get used to sorting the wheat from the chaff.

I come at things from a very different angle to the PI's here, but in my area of interest I find the same thing, the amount of stupidity and balls out there makes me sigh. But I keep going.:)

I agree with 6th. Perhaps getting rid of everything we think we know is the best place to start

i totally agree stoner,,when i got into this ,,i hadnt a clue what internet was all i had was tones of books,,i think the public are missled with the likes of youtube, and other various vids and audio,,

but the sole blame i think for people today is MOST DAUNTED,,,in my opinion they are making every investigator look bad.

    logic before paranormal.

As much as I dislike MH I think it did a great job in opening the whole area t o the general public.

Similarly Ghostbusters did the same thing (but on a much larger scale) 20 odd years ago. As opposed to your signature Dan I actually laugh if anyone calls me a ghostbuster, no harm is meant by it and seeing as there is nothing solid to base our beliefs on we have to be able to laugh at ourselves.

Embrace the Paranormal Pop culture! :D

i find the paranormal pop culture a hindrance. I want it to go that way, and I'll go the exact opposite way. I find too many people are into it for the scare factor with little interest in trying to understand just what the story is. that in itself I dont mind, but such people make it even harder for other people to talk and discuss genuine experiences as the paranormal is taken so unseriously due to the likes of the paranormal light entertainment shows that are out there.

at the risk of sounding contrary I think people dont take the paranormal investigators seriously because most people do believe that if ghosts exist proof of their existance would, by now, be present and not have to be faked by television programs who started as serious investigators but couldnt find true evidence. Its still fun trying though :p

I however love the pop culture :D
