EMT/Paramedic careers in Ireland

Hey, I have a friend who's in the middle of EMT/Paramedic training in the States (he has his EMT-Intermediate, but it's just for North Carolina, and is studying towards his Paramedic cert) but since finishing college he's having visa issues with staying in the States (he's actually Irish, just there for college). He has no idea what's required to be an EMT/Paramedic here, and I thought I'd ask here for him.

    Anyone know?

I've a reasonable idea that we don't really have EMTs the same way America does, so possibly it's not really a move he could make, but even if the qualifications he's got up to now are no good to him, just knowing what it *does* take to get in to that line of work here would be of benefit. Possibly the UK might be an idea either. Though any knowledge I have of EMT life there is from reading neenaw.co.uk and Random Reality ;)

It's not quite the same here as the states, but you can be an EMT or a paramedic over here. They work for the fire service or the health board.

There's an emergency services forum, though. They might be able to help you.
