    Hey,
I just booked my round the world ticket yesterday and read on a backpackers site that it would be a good idea to join a frequent flyers club as i'll be clocking up alot of miles. I have no idea how they work, google just gives loads of results but there's too many

Do i have to join before i buy my ticket (in which case it's too late) or is joining before you fly good enough? Is there usually a sign up fee if so how much roughly?
    I'll be flying with
    Aer lingus (just to london)
    British Airways (to NY)
    Delta (to mexico)
& Quantas (or LAN) (from chile - NZ - Oz)

Any body got any ideas on what would be my best bet? I checked out Quantas' program but it seems to be just for the quantas flights.. although since i'll be doing most mileage with them it may not be a bad idea..

    Any ideas guys?

Obviously i didn't check very well..
Qantas works together with American Airlines®, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malév Hungarian Airlines and Royal Jordanian to offer seamless travel to over 550 destinations.

Anyone got an idea of cost?
Seems i have to fill out a huge form and sign-up before they tell me

Join the BA executive club - its free and you'll get points on BA and Quantas, some Aer Lingus flights (code share I think?). Not sure about Delta. Living in Ireland you are likely to use BA (or affiliates) a lot over the years.

    I'd recommend BA also :)

I travel a good bit with work. I joined one airline's FF program in each alliance and that covers about 99% of my flights...

I have Air France/ KLM for the Sky Team Alliance. British Airways for One World. US Airways for Star Alliance.

All free to join and you can generally claim the miles up to six months after the flight. You usually have to fax them a copy of your boarding pass stub... So make sure that you don't lose it. Some of them just want you to enter your ticket or e-ticket number.

You'll be clocking up a good few miles with that trip, so you might get some little perks with the miles, like express check-in. Lounge access (depending on how many miles you have), seat upgrades if available. Starting off though you probably wont get seat upgrades, but you never know. Definitely worth signing up for anyway.
