Refunding a Buyer in Ebay

    Hi Guys

A quick one for you. I made a mistake on the description of a product that i was selling ( stupid error on my part) and after selling the product the buyer rightly flagged it as a dispute on paypal. I'm giving him a 100% refund no problem.

I want to make sure he gets all his money back and have agreed to pay him back in full the cost of the product and also postage. Are there any other fees that he would have paid to Paypal? Ebay? that he would have to be paid or will he get refunds from paypal and ebay on the fees they charged him.

    Thanks for any help.

Buyers don't get charged any fees by ebay or paypal. The only issue may be if he doesnt' regularly use paypal , I think they charge commision for transfering balances to bank accounts. But if he is a regular user, he will be happy to have his money back and will use it on another transaction.

If you go to the history tab on your PayPal account find the transaction that you want to refund then click on 'details' there should now be another link to 'refund payment' - once you do this any fee's are also refunded as if the transaction never happened.

If there is a dispute open against you then there should also be an option in the resolution centre to give your buyer a full refund.

I got charged for accpeting a refund on paypal before. This was outside of ebay though so maybe different rules apply.

People do not get charged for a paypal refund if done correctly. If the person just sends you the money, it is treated as a send therefore the recipient will get charged. The sender loses as well as they do not get their original paypal fees back.

To the OP, I would ask the buyer to agree to mutually cancel the auction as you will get your ebay final value fees back. You do this by raising a Unpaid Item dispute in ebay and select mutual cancellation. The buyer should agree it and you will get your fees back (not listing fee). The buyer does not get a black mark for agreeing a mutual cancellation.
