I've just had a 4 hour power cut. I was using my Technomate - TM-1000 Super when the power went off and when it eventually came back on the box was dead - nothing on the LED front panel and nothing happens when I press the power button. I have checked to see whether the fuse on the plug has blown but but I can't tell because the box is still dead. Have checked all the cables too.

Any suggestions? I've had the thing less than a year, can I bring it back to where I bought it and exchange it?

If it is less than a year it is still in warranty, take it back, don't mention the power out thou.

I took a Fortec back to Maplin for same fault. I *DID* mention the power out, as it did not break any of my other satellite receivers or computers etc. They replaced it eventually (It had to be sent to England).

It is less than a year old and I do have the receipt so I'll be taking it back tomorrow.

It's strange, though, because I did have it plugged into a surge protect cable and out of the TV, DVD player and VCR all on the same cable, the Technomate was the only thing that died. My PC is on a surge cable too and it's fine, too.

    Thanks for your replies. :)

The TM1000 is now after being replaced by the much better 5200 series that has a USB slot on the front which will allow you to insert a flash pen to play mp3's with a program that looks very like winamp or jpg pictures as a slide show..

See if you can get one of them instead or with a few extra quid I would recommend one, a truly great fta receiver.

    Thanks for your reply.

My DVD player plays .jpgs and it will do me for now - it's a Plustron that I got in Dunnes!

When I can afford it, I would be looking for something that also records programmes. Where I live, I can barely receive RTE (hill in the way) and can't get TV3 at all so I can't tune in my VCR and so can't record anything. When the time comes, is there a FTA receiver that also records onto hard drive or disk? Or am I looking at a DVD recorder? Sorry, haven't a clue about these things!

Brought my TM1000 back to the shop today and they are going to take a look at it and if it can't be fixed they'll give me a replacement.

The 5200 mentioned by steveon will record to usb memory stick or external hard drive, have one sitting in a box here but havn't got around to testing it.

The 5200 D USB received the highest review by some renound sat mag in the uk, 92% I think.

Anyone Try the new Darkbox PVR 2007.
You can record one channel and watch another channel on the same transponder.
    They also have card slot.
Sounds good and alot cheaper then the 5200.
    See http://www.darkbox.co.uk/
There are a few on ebay.

Very unstable compared to the 5200.
