iPhone/N95 8GB/XDA Orbit II?

So I'm due an O2 upgrade soon. I use the internet more and more every day, so am considering a move to one of these phones:

The iPhone: Is there even any indication or hint that it'll be out on O2 in Ireland? Anything? Not a bad looking phone. Apparently the internet browsing on it is class, that's my main draw to be honest.

N95 8GB: I love this phone. Played with my friends one last month and it's the bees knees. Seriously, the only thing that this is missing that'd even slightly put me off is the Xenon Flash. Apart from that, I'd buy one in the morning! Thing is 02 can't give me a straight answer when - or even if! - it's going to be out on the network.

XDA Orbit II - Saw the boss with one of these today, looks great. It's lacking a good camera from what I can make out but apart from that it's the business. If the iPhone's not coming, and there's no sign of the N95, it's my second choice!

What do you all think of these phones? What'd you pick? I'm going to be upgrading in three weeks, so I'd welcome comments...

I've checked with O2 re: the N95 8GB and they won't give me a straight answer at all. Even a vague date in the future'd be nice...

    O2 XDA Orbit II??
Are you sure it wasn't just the Orbit and not the Orbit II?

I didn't think the Orbit II was available here yet. The Orbit II is the same device as the HTC Touch-Cruise/Polaris and most resellers in this part of the world haven't even begun selling the Touch-Cruise yet.

On specs i would choose the Orbit II fwiw.

the iphone browser + user interface is by far the best on the market at present IMO.

the N95 8GB is the most feature packed (much better video/camera than iphone)

if i wanted a phone specifically for internet i'd get the iphone.
if i wanted a phone for its camera i'd get the N95

however, i dont expect either of these on o2 within the next month.

The XDA Exec has a nice browser, I can access my online banking using it, that's a first for me on a mobile device. The keyboard is excellent too. The phone is a bit bulky tho but apart from that I absolutely love it, and because it's a windows mobile device there's no shortage of software. Better display than a lot of other pda/smartphones too.

How about the N82? Better than the N95 IMO. Dunno if O2 are gonna bring it out though

The Exec is a bit of a brick tbh.
Back in the day it was considered cutting edge but it's getting on a bit at this stage.
Also no GPS or fm radio on it.

Most HTC pda-phones coming out now have inbuilt GPS as standard along with all the stuff the Exec has- Wifi/3G etc.
The Exec has a nice keyboard though.

I like the idea of having GPS. I also read a lot of PDF files on the go so that'd be a big draw as well...

Sorry but I'm intrigued by this.
Does your boss own the Orbit II?
    Or is it an Orbit.

I heard from 02, that the N95 8GB (black model) will be available on the 02 Website in mid April!!

Think I'm going to hang on for this one!

I would go for the nokia N95 8GB myself as it has 3G and Wifi capability.

The iPhone has no 3G conectivity so even though it has the most sophisticated browser it is going to be slower unless you happen to be in a wifi hotspot.

Plus: it depends what you do on the net. Nokia's safari, and the iphone's are great for surfing, but if you actually wanna do things like posting, and lack a speedy connection, then opera mini is the better alternative, and I wouldn't let the browser be the decisive factor - what about text entry? Copy and paste between an email and the browser? Or multitasking: change songplaylist while you're browsing boards.ie and then copy a link from the browser and send it as a quick email to s.o., etc etc... Fancy looks in browsers as with everything don't tell you much about overall usability!

Definately Nokia n95 8gb, have been using this piece of beauty for over 3 months now and haven't got single complaint, More ram, better camera, and unlimited possibilites. You can download almost everythg you can think off from the dictionary to remote any piece of electronic from your mobile and more more softwares. you won't regert it. If you get it and need any help with software or anything just pm me, will be more than happy to help you. Hope this helps. thanks

I think you need to decide what you want to do with your phone. Then pick the phone that does. For me I use the camera on my phone a good bit. I find it useful, taking pictures of things when I don't have a pen, or want to capture an image of something or someone. I also use the Radio a bit on mine. But my main requirement is that it has decent battery life. As a phone is no good if it had no power just when you need it.

N95-8GB, no contest if you compare overall features. iphone is beautiful but ultimately lacks crucial functionality as a smartphone. Lack of 3G, HSDPA, decent camera and 3rd party apps (offically) leave it wanting. If you need to hack it to get more functionality then I'd consider that to be a flaw. So, beautiful, yes.. but the iphones OS unfortunately doesn't go much deeper than the surface. The N95 has much better speed, camera, OS support etc.
Its subjective, iphone owners will laud it and disregard its flaws in favor of form over function but if you want a true "multimedia computer" (as Nokia call it) speed and a mobile office with all connectivity options go with the N95-2.

I was advised by both the local O2 and Vodafone outlets to avoid the N95 today. Too many having problems with broken screens and sliders they told me, so I got the E51 Nokia, and its gorgeous. i was going to wait til a trip to Florida in August for the iphone, but I am wondering about that already after using the E51.

    Spot on!
Couldnt agree more - and admittedly i WOULD buy an iPHONE but not from O2, and crucially, not as my main/only phone!
As to the n95 slider issue: those were early batch probs that dont apply to the 8gb - the screen, granted, could be sturdier on both. But people who tend to damage their phone's screen really really shouldnt consider a touchscreen iPHONE!
Btw, e51 is great, as was the criminally underrated e50 (not to mention the e60!)!

Have a look at Youtube where they hack at an iPhones screen with carkeys and razorblades........:D

    no... Have a look:
    http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/08/16/dealing-with-a-cracked-iphone-screen-repair-other-options/
or just google "iphone + screen + damage"...
Come on: it is NOT indistructable!!!
Also, my point was more about the fact that some, eh, people will get anything , eh, into a damaged state... And probs with a touchscreen when you have no other means of textentry are bad!!! Simple as that - even if in that youtube video you referred to suggests the iphone has the david blaine of all touchscreens...
