I have noticed in the last 6 months or so that sat's to the bigger tourney's, IO,IPC etc, have become very seldom and far between and if there are any you would be lucky to get 30 players, like i played a sat for the IPC in Limerick, poker events i think, Christmas 2006 and there were some were in the region of 80,90 players with 18 tickets i think.
I am on boards nearly everyday and constantly seeing Sat's in the Dublin,Drogheda and Galway areas.
So whats going on is it the air or what:p.Is it because theres to much happening every where else? Why don't we see these bigger sat's anymore?

I'd have to echo these sentiments. I played in that IPC one in the South Court too and it was a good structured event and I haven't noticed any of these tournaments on in Limerick for ages.
I'll probably travel to Clonmel this Sunday for a decent large buy-in tournament but thats about an hour's drive and I'd prefer more on my doorstep.

There is a big catchment area around Limerick:Kerry\Clare\Tipp\Galway\Cork and with the popularity of these tournaments they would easily be success.

So any organisers reading this, maybe hold a big Irish Open qualifier in one of the hotels here in the coming months? :)

So I guess it looks pretty bleak from the amount of responses to this thread.

No I was thinking of going down to the Big Slick one in the Minella hotel.
I have work on the Monday morning so I was just saying that it would be much more convenient if there was a similar well-run and well-advertised tournament on around Limerick in the coming weeks.

Macs, do you not think there will be a big turn out for the CPT one in Clonmel too?
And ok, I know for €250, that its not a "large" buy-in, but its affordable for the part-time poker players like myself.

yeah the Big Slick one will be decent as always I'm sure...

I'm sure there will be a big crowd at the CPT one but I wasn't having a go about the buy in... just that they are Ieland's largest cowboy outfit and still continue to get the numbers!! Amazes me!! they constantly fleece their regs in rag fees and rake and still the regs will go back for more and more and defend them to the last

Ya I was reading a few threads in relation to this and I noticed a fair bit of animosity towards the CPT games. But I guess they don't care if they have built up a loyal client base over the years.
I'd say both tournaments will be packed anyway because of the coursing festival. There will be a lot of dangerous drunks at the tables!

there's an irish open qualifier coming up soon in fitzpatricks casino.i saw a poster in there with all the info, but for the life of me i cant remember when its on.

there also running sats for the midlands open a few nights a week. not sure what kind of numbers he's getting.if you give ben or ross a ring they'll fill you in on these and while your at it ask him to put you on there texting/mailing list which is handy.

Thanks fl&sh, I think there was one on there Sunday night and another one for the IO on the end of Feb.

I was only wondering why the big tourneys aren't coming to places like the Radisson or South Court like they used to. I'll stick to the odd game in Fitzpatricks for the time being.

I'll be down your neck of the woods in the next 3 months running sat for my Irish Masters.

Can you think of any good venues. If you have any contact details of tourney organizers in the area that would be great.

    Thanks
    Jp

I'm in Mayo this Saturday if thats not to far for you.

When PE ran games in the south court hotel it got the best numbers of any game in the city, casino or otherwise.

I can't make the Mayo one but I'd agree with Duff Man saying that the South Court Hotel is your best bet for a tournament because the function room they have is ideal for it.
Can't help you with details of tourney organisers as there hasn't been much happening lately. Fitzpatricks casino in Limerick City is the only establishment with regular tourneys at the moment.

i think it would be a better idea to give ben(card room manager)in fitzpatricks casino a ring on 061 408242 to organize a sat. for this.

carfax and PE have ran sats here before(PE never turned up for theirs but ben ran it anyway and carfax ran it on a night when there was a home game sat. organized for the same event he was running his for and got very few players,16 i think)

you wont need, chips, tables, dealers or advertising as they have a large postal/text register for the local and further afield players, you may not even have to show up for this event in person.

although you probably wont make any money out of it,it would probably end up costing you more than what its worth to run it elsewhere in the city and you'll still end up only giving out the same amout of tickets for the masters event.

i'll be there to support you anyway where ever you decide to hold it.
