    Hi,

Ever since i can remember ive suffered from blushing. Its nowhere near as bad as it was in school. I work in a job that involves alot of interaction with clients etc, sometimes in meetings etc i go as red as a tomato when asked something in front of a crowd of people or whatever. I do not want to suffer from this anymore. Can anyone suggest credible solutions for this problem? Does Hynosis actually work?

    Thanks

unfortunately there's very little you can do for this. I know a lot of people really suffer badly from it,but there's no cure. I've heard alcohol makes it waaay worse so perhaps steer clear of that??

If it happens when you're stressed or anxious you could look into doing something along the lines of stress management. It might help reduce it?

    Hypnosis worked for me.

    Yo

My mother had the same blushing problem, dealt with it for 30 years until she'd had enough, and got an operation to stop it happening. The procedure is called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy and if you think it will make your life better then research it very well before deciding on it. It should really be your last resort, first try books and stress therapy and magic fairy hyponosis.

Here's a link to start you off.... http://www.parsec.it/summit/sympat1e.htm

Mods if you think my suggestion is a bit extreme then feel free delete my post. My ma is happier now anyways.

There are lots of forums on the net about this procedure and the extreme bad side effects of this unreversible procedure, mainly excessive sweating of the palms and in other areas. Didn't some guy die last year (I think from Dublin) doing the same procedure?

Well Overheal there are some people out there (including myself btw) that don't particularly "like that warm feeling". Embarrassment and shame is not a nice feeling

I'm a 27 year old male, i've been blushing since i can remember.
It got to a point where i was missing school, university because of the fear of turning red
    Its basically a vicious cycle.
You think people are thinking you're blushing, this in turn makes you go red, you then think ''oh my god, what must they be thinking, i'm like a beetroot'' This makes you worse and the cycle continues
I looked into the surgery as well, and although it can be a success a well known solicitor died on the operating table last year.
and as someone said it can lead to further problems like excessive sweating where you would wish you had your blushing problem back

A book changed my life and i wholeheartedly endorse it (i had to order it online for fear of blushing in the book store)
Its called Coping with blushing, and its written by Dr Robert Edelmann
My life has completely changed and although i still blush (i mean everyone does) i no longer blush in everyday normal situations or if i'm in a shop and they shout who's next and everyone looks at me (the OP will know what i mean)
I blush if i'm getting teased about a girl or other normal blushing situations, but i dont give them a second thought, like everybody else

If you cant find a copy online then say so, i can post you a copy of my one

i go red very easily, not just in embarrassing situations, even if i'm at work, or in the cinema or any crowded place. i think i'm just prone to it.

i use You're Bluffing! by Benefit

it's not a full time solution if you think you suffer very badly from blushing but if you use it under foundation it works wonders.

it's not noticible at all if you blend it in properly. i swear by it, i won't go outside without it on and it lasts a good time, depending on how much you use.

the problem may not be the blushing - that fair irish skin! - but how you feel about going red or the possibility of going red. Could it be social anxiety? Do you feel people are judging you, and judging you negatively about the flushing?

Thanks for all your worthwhile comments. Surgery would be the last resort to be honest as blushing doesnt affect that much that i would literally go under the knife for it.

The books idea is good. I wouldnt say it was social phobia, although i would openly admit that i am quite shy i wouldnt say that has anything to do with it. Could someone recomment a hynothist in the munster region?

Nothing worse than people staring at you as you go bright red, its like some people enjoy it when it happens b*stards!
