    I know there are quite a few race organisers who read these threads. Could someone explain why cross country womens (ladies) events are usually shorter than mens?

    Probably driven by the fact that most of the championship races have the mens longer than the women - example the mens intercounty is 10k and the womens is 8k, worlds is longer I think.. The longest event of the track for women used to 3k and even when 10k came in it was still the 3k until last decade or so when it became 5k. Tradition I'd say.
