The newest and most advanced is the iPod Touch but it only has a flash memory of 16G so if you want a load of songs then the 160GB Classic is probably your best bet for now.

The newest iPod out is the Touch. It only goes up to 16Gb though.

gb or I'd recommend the iPod classic that has 80gb or 160Gb.

I got a 80Gb classic at christmas for an impressive €248 seeing as the Ipod Nano 8Gb was €198 - Ten times the storage for €50 extra!!!

The ipod touch is definetly the best option. By far the most impressive device of its kind on the market.
16 GB is a shed load of MP3's to most people.

If you don't want video then you're much better off with the iPod Classic, it was released the same time as the touch, quite similar to the previous models but there won't be a new 'classic' for some time. It's in either 80gb or 160gb, the 80gb is just over €200 below:

    Maybe even substantially less.

Well 16GB = 16,000, MB , ( sticking with correct decimal here ) and most albums encoded with Lame VBR 0 ( variable bit rate , 100% quality ) come in at 70 MB ( again correct decimal ) so 16, 000 / 70 = 228.27 .......thats where I got my figures from.
Lame VBR 0 being generally considered the best way to encode. ( files are much bigger than itunes default , so if you use that you'll fit substantially more onto the device )
I have over 3000 albums on my HTPC all encoded this way , I averaged the size of all the folders to get the 70 MB figure , so it should be a good estimate.

Applying windows binary counting system for capacity , drops both figures by about 7 % and the result comes out the same.

It will vary of course , some albums are bigger than others , but should be close enough.
