Distribution system.

    Hi folks,
First post so here goes,I've set up a TV distribution system that consists of

    Satellite dish on Sky digital
    RTE VHF aerial,
    UHF aerial for TV3/TG4
    and
UHF aerial for BBC 1/2, ITV and Ch4 from a local deflecter operator

All aerial feeds are combined in the attic and I have just two coax drops (second being the Sat) to the site of the Digibox and VCR, on leaving both boxes the feeds enter a combiner and return to a 8 TV distribution amplifier in the attic. The problem is that I'm being plagued by interference, mostly horizontal lines or bands travelling up or down the screen, somtimes vertical lines travelling across and now sparkly ghosting on ITV terrestrial (this ghosting is new I've only just added the combiner to eliminate daisy chaining Sat box and VCR) combiner did seem to improve reception quality of cross channel terrestrial though.
I do have a variable attenuator which I've tried in various positions in system and may try again on the feed of strongest signal (UHF TV3/TG4). I'm getting my Irish terrestrial from Mt Leinster if it's relevant

If anyone can shed any light on causes or suggest solutions I'd be very grateful.

    Thanks.:)

I'm not sure why you're using a combiner behind the Sky/VCR. I think a daisy chain with decent linking cables should do.

Generally, it'd be lead coming down from aerial into Aerial Input at rear of Skybox.
There are two RF outputs on Skybox - 1 to feed into the VCR, and then the TV; the other (RF2) to feed back upstairs to the distribution system feeding other rooms.

Try plugging the lead coming from aerial directly into the rear of the TV to see if the problem persists there first, this can elimiate the SKybox or VCR causing the problem (which can happen).

As this problem seems to be more an issue with terrestrial signals as opposed to your satellite, I'm going to move it across to the Terrestrial forum.

    Thanks Byte,

Firstly apologies for the oversized text and misplaced post, the reason I'm trying the combiner is that this method was suggested in an E book that I bought from the Satcure website called "Piping TV around the home" in it the author says that daisy chaining multiple UHF modulators as in VCR or Skybox can cause what from his description sounds like my inteference vertical/horizontal lines and bands.

In relation to your suggested use of RF outputs from digibox am I wrong in thinking if I use this method the only channel being distributed will be the digiboxs output channel, I did have 10 channels available at every TV on system (terrestrial Irish/English, Sat and video playback channel).

The reception at the first TV (sited with VCR/Sat) is fine when plugged in directly although this set always had the best reception even when on the system.

    Once again thanks.
