Im in the process of doing a side project with a friend of mine, a 2 piece band me on drums and my friend playing bass. Looking to try fill out the sound as much as possible and get some freaky sounds out of the bass using 2 different amps. Just wondering what would happen if we used both the rick-o-sound and normal jack inputs on the bass, and hooked each one up to a different amp?

Other than my friend getting all kinds of tangled up, would there be an earthing issue or anything like that that could short the amp or what not? Basicly, what would the outcome of this be? is it safe for both the user and the amps/guitar?

Well thats kinda the point of the Rick-O-Sound although you don't use both jacks at once. The ROS jack is actually a stereo jack, you have to buy a Rick-O-Sound box to use it although I believe a Stereo Y splitter might work?
So don't use the Stereo and Mono (regular) jacks together, I think when you plug into the stereo jack it cuts off the mono anyways.

BTW if you're looking for any influence or idea's check out Clatter. ;)
They might be coming over here soon. :)

Amy, the bassist uses a RIC and has the same kinda setup. Actually her setup is freakin huge, she uses a guitar stack and two bass stacks for her sound. She's a member over at Harmony Central where I frequent and hangs out in the bass forum sometimes. Pretty cool.

Just confirmed on RIC's forums that a stereo Y cable or splitter will do the trick! You should be able to get one in Maplins. :)

The Ric-O-Sound routes each pickup to a different end of a stereo output, so you can run the bridge pickup to one amp and the neck pickup to another. The switch is still funtional, so if you flick it to the neck pickup it'll only come out the amp you running the neck pickup into, for example. If you've both pickups on both amps will be activated. Tried it on my 4003, it's a giggle/novelty but not worth the trouble of setting it all up tbh.

Yeah, they're great! I saw 'em live a few years back. It was a mental gig!:)

    Pity they broke up. :(

I've tried it a couple of times and its nothing amazing. If you want to get a big sound outta the ricky get a nice amp, compress and eq, and play hard with your fingers up near the bridge. If you want to do something with a bass in stereo something like the Boss DD6 delay will be much more interesting.

Bayou Audio Cables make a Rick-o-sound box. Works quite well. Otherwise you need to make sure that the two amps are in phase with one another so possibly something like the Radial ABY splitter (which offers phase reverse on one of its outputs) might be necessary for one of the pickups.
