stayed there a couple of years ago - really enjoyed it - the inside is really cool although a little tacky (but then again most things in Vegas are a little tacky). Really nice pool area and decent buffet. The only thing is that it is almost at the end of the strip but saying that we walked down the strip no probs

There are two parts to the Luxor, the Pyramid and the Tower. If you're staying in the Pyramid the lifts are in the corners and go up an incline. However, the lifts at each corner only service a certain number of floors, say 1-10 for one corner, 11-20 for another, etc. If you're on the opposite corner to the lift that services your floor it's a very long walk, particularly if you're on a lower floor as obviously the floors get smaller the higher you go. If you don't fancy that it might be worth asking for a room close to the lifts.

It's a nice hotel, slightly tacky as has already been mentioned, but sure isn't that what you go to Vegas for? :D

the luxor is split into two areas; the older 350ft pyramid tower that most associate with the hotel, this part was built in 1993 and although very decent quality the rooms are starting to show their age in some areas

The newer tower rooms to the east of the pyramid (seen here closer to the camera) http://www.locr.com/photos/000/cb/3f/cb3fc49e3c02a2bbb02b654b5c9a021a_M.jpg offer better quality and bigger rooms but don't offer the experience that only staying in a giant glass pyramid can provide :)

as for location it is located at the south end of the strip but its right next to excalibur, mandalay bay and across the road from tropicana and mgm grand. You will have to walk, walking in vegas is half the fun and half the nightmare because by the end of the trip you will have your legs walked off

The buffet is decent but there are much better buffet options in town imo for less money e.g. orleans, rio, gold coast, harrahs, ballys, flamingo, golden nugget.

TheBazman is correct, Luxor was a bit cheesy and tacky inside but the owners MGM-Mirage have started to de-theme the hotel and make it more classy and upscale, a very cool upscale nightclub has just opened called LAX (now a frequent haunt of hollywood celebs) and numerous classy bars/restaurants are opening all over the hotel, the egyptian theme which once dominated the inside of this gigantic hotel has almost been all removed and will be by the end of the year.

BTW there was a major fire at the equally huge monte carlo hotel on friday, which is just up the road from the luxor, not sure how that is affecting traffic at this time on las vegas blvd (The strip) or indeed traffic coming from the airport

I have friends who stayed in the Luxor and the only complaint they had was that there were no safes in the room and they had to use the safes in reception. Sometimes there would be a bit of a queue and you would have to wait before you can get your money.

"Inclinators" are horrible. Buffet was only ok I thought.... sorry!

My tip though is, if there are big queues to check in, chance your arm and try to check in at The Tower. We did this by accident, queued for all of 1 min. THe girl seemed a bit annoyed "You were supposed to check in at The Pyramid desk" (oops!) but checked us in anyway. We walked passed the live we were supposed to be in, it looked about 30 mins long. (And I read on trip advisor that the queues do get that long).

Anyway, that was June. off seaon I'm sure that you'll have no wait anyway.:)
