Does anyone have an idea how deep the metro north tunnel will be from the surface ?

Now would be an excellent time to flatten the hill north of O Connell street.

    Q. How deep will the tunnel be?

    A. The depth of tunnels varies along the route. In general the minimum depth of the Metro North tracks is 20 metres below ground, giving a distance from the top of the tunnel of 15 metres to ground level. The final depth of the tunnels in any particular area is dependent on the detailed analysis of ground conditions.

    Q. What is the guaranteed minimum depth of tunnel?

    A. The depth of the tunnel varies significantly depending on the ground levels in each area along the route. In the area between the Parnell Square and Mater stops, the top of the tunnels are approximately 21 metres (69 feet) below ground level.

    Q. What is the diameter of the tunnel?

    A. Metro North will have two tunnels, each approximately 6.7m in diameter – just over half of the diameter of the Dublin Port Tunnel tunnels.

    Q. What is the guaranteed maximum width of all tunnels combined?

    A. The tunnel size depends on the size and make of the Metro North trams. It is expected to be approximately 6.7 metres in diameter. There will be two separate tunnels, one for north bound services and one for south bound. The space between the two tunnels will be around 7 metres.

    Thanks Egan

If its 15meters below the liffey it would be great. The hill above O connell street which goes on to the canal should be flattened.

Also O Connell Street is very crooked. Its not in line with the bridge at all.

Ever thing, that maybe the bridge isn't in line with the road? Or that the bridge is skewed so as to meet with D'Olier and Westmorland Streets at particular angles?

Nice straight streets with nice right angled junctions just don't look right. Example Limerick, US cities.
The curved streets, show the history and character of the land, before it was paved. Add in flattening hills, because ya don't like them is a bit much. There's quite a bit of real estate and historical buildings and parks in the general area of Constitution Hill/Western Way.

main streets should be flat and straight. 500meters is a bit short.

It's Ok, we could just move all those builds round top of Parnell Sq to the Park while we flatten the area, relay the Royal canal, rebuild Broadstone. It'll make a really kewl episode of Mega Movers on Discovery Channel.

Ok, OK. I may have made a mistake in assuming Maskhadov was joking or wanting to wind someone up. Based on that assumption I thought it was fair to make another joke back.
I apologise profusely for any offense my remarks may have caused to Maskhadov! :(
