    Hi All,
I'm getting a springer pup in about 2 months and I'm looking for advise on building a run for him.
My current dog is house pet / crap gundog but the new lad will be purely outdoor.

My query is about the enclosure and the surface of the run - kennel is fine.
I was recommended to use some of the galvanised security fencing (type they use on building sites)?
Should I cement in the run? Handy for cleaning.
What size should I have? (space isn't an issue - but if concreting - cost could be)

    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Dave

I have a build on at the moment.
link a gully trap (shore) in the run your building to an AJ for the septic tank, means you can wash down into a gully trap and away it goes. Put a fall on the run towards the gully. Using some wavin put feint gullys to take away any wash run off etc.

I am buying a ready made run to fit the base, you'll see the adds in shooters digest. My brother made his pen using square fence posts and square mesh wire. As for size I'm going 8 ft x 10 ft, but It suits me as I have a gap that this will fit in lovely. I have ran an armoured cable out to rig a security light. I am taking my time and doing this right even if it costs me extra, literally going the muts nuts. People have said I'm mad, but I only reply how much is your dog worth?

Dog run 300-400 from lr active

Very good idea, my wife is going to kill me as I look to re-do the outside tap

You've some excellent advise already. I know you are going to keep the dog indoors, but keep hold of the old dog house and keep it in the run, to give the animal somewhere to lay up when it wants a kip or get in out of the rain.

Me and brother did up a very large dog pen for his German Shepard, we hooked up a small water feeder that we got in a co-op that is usualy used for sheep. Its palstic and can be bolted to a wall at what ever height you need. Its fed from a mains pipe and works off a ballcock system, meaning that the system will replensih itself, you just got to clean it out once or twice a week..

All good advice there already but one thing to think of ,no matter how much
you clean concrete with powerhose or scrubbing it will eventually stink so keep it away from the house and barbecue area's .
I use disinfectant on a regular basis in my run but the smell still returns.

Sounds like a good idea, but don't think it would work for all dogs. I've a large setter and he can be quite drooly. So when changing his water there can be a drool in and on the bowl, I wash it every day. So a with a water feeder wouldn't really help.

To prevent a smell you have to be at it very regular, I clean mine everyday with a hose and disinfectant. If I leave it for even 3 days it gets smelly. I only ever do this is I was away and dad was sick, but even the little bro (7) has started now.
