From what everybody says and all the reviews the D300 is fantastic. I sure some of the Nikon users will back this up.

I got a D300 last month (been using D70 since it came out). Its a massive step up, very impressive ISO levels, great AF, feels great, robust..... go for it!

Well Thom Hogan says that the D300 is pretty much the better D2x in a smaller body (everything it has and more).

I heard that the D200 had pretty bad battery life too.

I had a D200 and have used a D300 briefly. From what I've seen and from what I've read the D300 would appeat to be superior in technology and image quality than the D2xs. I'd imagine the build quality of the D2xs would be better though. I'm sure there are D300 groups on flickr who would be able to tell you alot more. Given the choice, I'd get a D300 before a D2xs, but thats me.

    Read this:

I'm going to order mine this week. :)
That's leave me with a D80 as a second body and a D70s to sell.

I'm a current D200 user and it has limitations particularly ISO related issues tha tmean it's not great under floodlight conditions. ( Huge noise)

Having tried out the D300 I found it to be vastly superior and considered that as the upgrade.

I had a preview D3 model last September and was almost dumbstruck at its clarity and the sensors ISO capability.

Having hummed and hawed for a few days I opted for the D3. It's ordered and I expect delivery this week. I was due to collect it ex Bellfast but could not make the trip on either of the days so the supplier moved it to the next person on the list.

Don't mind waiting as I can't really get out at the moment to make full use of it.

I have both the D200 & D300. I purchased the D300 on it's release day. I also mulled the idea of getting a D2Xs but the used price of them was too high. In the end I went for the D300 as it was newer technology with better specs than the D2Xs.

A few things which impress me the most about the D300. The LCD screen is stunning compared to the D200 (and D2Xs). 14 bit NEF recording. Matrix metering is superb with very little need to go back to spot. Custom menu for accessing options you use on a regular basis. Autofocus, 21 point, or 51 point 3D is excellent.

Now after saying all that I'm thinking of selling both my D200 & D300 and buying a D3 with the 14-24 f/2.8 lens.
