dusk to dawn cfl or separate photocell

    Hi Folks,

I've bought 2 X Corner mounted external lights to replace faulty PIR activated halogen floodlights.

I want to use these as dusk to dawn lights for security purposes, with low energy CFL bulbs for financial/green reasons.

I know you can get cfl bulbs with dusk to dawn sensors built in, but these dont seem suitable for use in an enclosed fitting (prob too much light reflected which would cause the bulb to go on/off and blow ?)

Many of the stand alone photocell fittings don't seem to be suitable for use with CFL's.

Has anyone out there come across this problem and if so you know of a cfl friendly photocell fitting that I could wire with to the lights.

    Thanks...

IMO putting a PIR on a CFL is not a good idea, CFLBulbs blow with regular switching and also switching uses much more energy, which defeats the cost saving purpose. No problem to link a separate Photocell, but again these tend to be in a average light level position and not near fitting. Also worth considering is linking Photocell to timer for more light control and energy saving without switching etc.

i have my night time lights connected to a photocell with a switch in line to kill them if i need to change a bulb when there lit, havin a timer would be an advantage, maybe a din rail type at the start of the circut in the fuse board would be a neat option.
