I'm thinking of going back to liverpool for a Clannad concert in march. Stenaline.ie is quoting 319 euro for a car and two adults with a child I then went into the short breaks page of the website. It offered me the same sailings, with two nights in the premier inn, Albert dock on a room only basis, for 260 euro all in, (cheaper than two ryanair flights). This seems to work on most dates to different destinations. Its worth a look for anyone planning a few days away.

I discovered norfolkline last year and found the special of car and two, night sailing with cabin and grub, for only 145 euro return. http://www.norfolkline-ferries.co.uk/EN/Fares/Special_offers/Dublin_sail/Seasonal_promotion.htmI used it twice in early december and my folks used it in xmas week. Unfortunately, they have stopped that offer. I have family just outside Birkenhead so it really is my route of choice but not on the current prices.

If they restarted that offer, I would jump at it.

The stena offer is quite interesting as anyone here that is looking to book a sailing can get it cheaper by booking the hotel included, even if they dont need it. In my case, ferry+hotel was 40 euro cheaper than the ferry alone?!?!

Not my experience. I fly to Liverpool from Shannon, Cork or Dub 2 or 3 times a month and never pay more than €30. Well, almost never.

    The day before is 1c + taxes = €22.73

Ryanair do have a pricing policy that is hard to work out. It's not about booking in advance only. They are always trying to maximise profits don't forget.

Fridays and Mondays are their busiest days, where typically the %age of people flying will have businesses paying for the tickets. Therefore on most business routes Monday & Friday will be highly priced far in advance even if there is nobody booked on the plane yet.

What I often find is that if the plane is still only half full a couple of days before, the prices fall dramatically. Happened for me a few weeks back when Dub-New was 130, fell to 20 the night before.

It may be that you can't fly on the Thursday, in which case take a gamble or go by ferry. Shame, norfolkline seem to have stopped the premier specials too.
