Old Style Churches in North Dublin

    Hi there,
Spent the best part of this afternoon driving between Fairview/Clontarf/Killester/Howth/Malahide & Portmarnock trying to find a nice church our wedding but had very little success!

We're looking for a small-ish old-style Catholic Church but they don't seem to exist! Seen 2 nice churches but both turned out to be Church of Ireland. All the Catholic churches were these huge grey monstrosities!

We're getting married in Clontarf Castle so it needs to be within approx 20 minute drive of there.

Anyone get any suggestions? Something that would hold 130-150 guests.

    Thanks...

Try St Nicholas of Myra Church in Kinsealy, its on the Malahide Road. Unfortunately they recently built houses beside it but its still a lovely church.

Balheary Church just outside Swords is probably my favouite around. Not sure about the size though

I'd agree with those two options. (Balheary is in the parish of Donabate).

The red brick isn't popular with many people. It was once labelled "Ireland's most hideous church".

Presumably you mean that the reception is in Clontarf Castle! ;)

Peter & Pauls in Baldoyle. It's the old church by the sea in the villiage, not the newer one next door to the shopping centre.

Thanks for all the replies, we were out in Balheary Church yesterday and thought it was lovely. We're definitely going to book it if it's available.

I think Fr Paddy Byrne is the PP for Donabate and Balheary.

    Weddings

For people who live outside of the parish, call the Parish Office @ 8434 574 to make a booking. There is a booking fee and you must provide your own priest for the wedding. All papers must be sent to Donabate Church by the priest in your parish at least a month in advance of the wedding. Or for couples living abroad, papers are sent to their Bishop who in turn sends them to the Archbishop who sends them out to Donabate.
