Vaccines needed for travel?

I've never gotten any travel vaccines before and I'm heading to Africa in August on a safari. Does anyone know roughly how much the vaccines will cost me? It seems to be a grey area regarding people knowing the approx cost of vaccines.

    thanks

Ok, I can give you what it cost me for mine in 2004.

I got the TwinRx (Hep A & Hep B), as well as the Polio, Diptheria and Typhoid shots and it cost me about 150 without the consult. Consult should have cost 60 but myself and my mate were going to the same place so the doc said fine, he would do the two consults for the price of 1.

I then got the second TwinRix shot in Ireland and that cost about 60 to 80

I got the final booster 6 months later and it cost 90AUD

Got the yellow fever one and it cost 90AUD in Perth including the consult.

So they aint cheap. I got the ones in Ireland in the TMB in Limerick

Visit www.tmb.ie they show costs per injection. For some vacs, you need more than one visit, prices only shown for one shot, not entire course.

Are any of these covered by medical card or health insurance? Possibly not.

Dont think so.. oh and you will probably need Malaria tabs as well, I used both Malarone and Deoxy .. found the Deoxy to be better but probably because i took the malarone without food which they say you shouldn't :o

I went to Tanzania for a month back in July 06. Got all my vac's in the tropical medical clinic on Grafton. If I remember correctly I spent about 200/250 or so on mine. They will go though everything with you and give a perscription for all your other meds needed, I think this cost me another 80 or 90 euros. One a day Malaria tablets were €4 euro each. Hope this helps!

Just back form Africa as of yesterday.
Vaccines arn't covered by the DSP.
    I got..
1.)Malaria tablets (I got Malerone: most expensive ones but easiest to take, as in, start 2days before you go, one everyday your there and a week when you come back..my friend got malaria tablets that she has to take for 4 weeks when she gets back!)
    2.)Yellow Fever
    3.)Typhoid
    4.)Hep A
    5.)Diphteria/Tetanus/Polio.

Think it came to about €250 iirc!
