So you're looking to set up an Irish amateurs adult magazine? Or am I misunderstanding this completely?

What exactly are you looking for advice in regards to? Getting it set up and staffed? Getting content? Getting it printed?

If your budget is limited then your best bet is probably to start online and take it from there - it's probably the cheapest option if you're looking to start building a brand or get writers etc. but remember that you get what you pay for. I'd imagine that rule also applies in the area of content, too.

well i as i said most of the content will be submitted from the public so how do i best advertise that im looking for people who are interested in submitting themselves for interview to contact me.or just email their story or comments and if i choose to i will put it in the magazine.so how do i advertise that im looking for people to participate.
And when i do have the magazine ready for the shelves where should i aim for as regards selling? like who should i contact regarding selling it,should i just email and phone as many shops as i can think of ?i will be setting up a website as well but i think it would really need to be out in publication to create any sort of awareness for it.
i am think of selling to the shops for free to start off with and then if its sells can name a wholesale price for the magazine.its early days yet so im trying to get as much info as possible.thanks

Realistically only sex shops will sell it and they probably have an umbrella group so approach that. Can't see it working though.

So basically you're starting completely from scratch?

Well best of luck to you.

As I said already, content-wise your best bet is to try and advertise online if you're on a budget.

You've not exactly made clear what you're looking for in an interviewee - and for the most part if you're looking for anyone worth speaking to you'll have to do more than sit back and wait for the emailed requests to start flying in.

If you're serious about what you're doing and actually have the money to produce something then you need to get some writers, get a deadline and then get some copy from that. In other words you have to go looking for stories, features, interviews and so on - don't expect them to come looking for you. If you want advertising you'll also need to get some mock prints done up, do some serious research about your target audience and show them that you're worth investing in.

In terms of getting the finished product on shelves, Easons and Newspread are the two big distributors in Ireland. They're the ones that put things on shelves in Ireland.

No offence, but you must be really short. The top shelf of most newsagents is full of porn - at least as far as the main players go anyway.

Eh that's international stuff. Candlelit vigils, letters of concern. they'll take them off shelves eventually.

hi i really appreciate a lot of the advise there given to me.i believe that the difference with this mag and other mags is that it will be a lot more than a porn mag.something similar to nuts but with a bit more class to it.if you look at nuts and playboy there is a world of difference between the two.playboy has a lot more class to it.so im aiming to create a magazine like that with somewhat of an irish theme.i have been thiking of just emailing and ring about to see if peole would be intersted in giving an interview.but i first nee dto create the website so hopefully within a month or two i could be ready to do that.

Face it you won't be able to afford the quality of photographers, the models or the paper quality to get a look that's anything like Playboy.

I suggest you take a PPA course in publishing (www.ppa.ie). Seriously. You don't seem to know anything about advertising, marketing, distribution or costing. These are all very important factors of which you need at least a working knowledge.

It sounds a bit like you came up with the idea and you just want to get stuck in and make it happen. It's not that simple and it usually requires some expertise in these areas.

Also, it's ridiculous to say that you have a very limited budget one one hand but that you're aiming for the same quality as Playboy on the other.

BTW - I believe there's a mag called "Reader's Wives". All the pics are submitted by members of the public. Is that similar to your idea?

If you want to have people take you seriously in publishing, and I'm not just being a c*nt here, you might think of starting your sentences with capital letters and using a spellchecker.

Isn't the old line about Playboy: "I read it for the articles"?
