I'm quite a pop-rock songwriter, mainly on piano even though my first love is guitar and always will be. I'm in a bit of a rut with my improvisational skills on my electric, using all my scales but can't identify and changes between the modes (Am I misunderstanding their purpose?), I tend to be quite pentatonic in my style which frankly,is boring myself! So my paino playing is fine,I just can't seem to wean the versatility of out my guitar, normal chord progressions are too familiar and the latest technique I've been using is the kind used in Blackbird by The Beatles(which has helped a great deal) Any other techniques that can really help my ability flourish on the acoustic and release me from my rut? (Artificial harmonics are a no-go due to my acoustic, looking to upgrade soon, any advice on an intermeditate acoustic would be greatly welcomed.)

    Cheers!
