That's all well and good but Sky have an irritating habit of needlessly clipping their match replays. Better than nothing I suppose.

Interesting to note that none of last years Grand Slam u20s are in this years squad.

Good to see the production line of talent is being pushed through :)

1-5 we look out muscled on paper, I think the back row and backs are good enough to win, but conditions look a little icy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

10-8 to Ireland no real game plan its just kick kick kick, Horgans having a mare. Thing thats keeping them in their is David Paices throwing is awfull isnt hitting his jumpers at all

I'd worry if I was a Munster fan with only one player in the starting lineup. Where will their future stars come from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

Anyone watch the Saxons match? End score 31-13. Ireland looked awful only had Bowe who had any class. Dunne was very good aswell but thats it. Fitz at 13 did jack all and his defence wasnt good same for Horgan. Front 5 got murdered and went every direction bar forwards. Backrow looked knackered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Quite poor. Why Bowe isn't in the squad for tomorrow I will never know. All missing apart from Bowe, Boss and Dunne.

Tbh this years u/20's looks like a weak enough vintage all round.

Besides Munster do have a crop of great young players from very recent under age teams...K. Earls i reckon could be fantastic as could Hurley.

Ulster had Pollack and Cave (who has incredible lines of running) on recent underage teams. They have the potential to be great players.

Leinster...well we have a heap of young'uns in our first team already.

As for the A game I thought Bowe was good and Quinlan was excellent. Fitzgerald just isn't up to this level defensively yet. Healy is a great rugby player but a terrible prop...much like Horan. Horgan didn't impress as a centre...AGAIN.

Watched the last 20 minutes of the U20's match on RTE.ie, I was very impressed with the picture and sound quality. A very decent alternative if you can't watch the games on tv. A much better speed than Setanta on eircom.

So was everyone else bar Bowe and Quinlan and they made their fair share of mistakes

absolutely crap.im sick of sticking up for fitzgerald,i swear i saw him touch the ball twice, there coacjing must be **** becuase they were awfull.i also think horgan should never wear an ireland jersey again,he is useless,at centre the only thing he achieved today was to make sure especially fitzgerald and the other backs got no ball once he had it,his selfishness pisses me off,he is only fit for the wing on a schools team

Bad start to the weekend. I have a bad feeling about tomorrow/today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,252 ✭✭✭Funkstard

Meh, don't think you can hope for too much from A matches. The team is only together for a week or so beforehand.

A bad second half from Ireland A.

Johnnie Murphy was very bad for that english try, where they kicked over his head. He was 6 miles out of position.

A very tough night for the front row, but valuable experience for Healy, there must have been 5 or 6 freekicks for standing up in a scrum going backwards. Give him a season or two of these games and he will be golden :)

Luke Fitz is not up to this standard IMHO..

I played against this guy about a year or two! Kind of puts ones laziness in perspective a bit

Although I'm not TOO jealous cause they were rubbish :D

RE: the Ireland A game, it wasn't all doom and gloom. Bowe was a cut above almost every player on the pitch (with the exception of England's Geraghty) and clearly a crime he's not in full squad. Dunne played well behind a pack that went backwards all night, Boss came into the game well after a dodgy opening 15, and Horgan showed signs of getting into some form in the second half.

It was an immense defensive display, how the Saxons didn't put 40+ on us is beyond me and is a testament to some really dogged defence and good squad cohesion. Caldwell also shone. Was very disappointed with Healy though, had a rough night...

TBH mate the reason the Saxons didnt get a higher score on board was because Paice's throwing was that of a child, once Hartley came on things worked much better then tempo was raised. Hartley must be getting lessons of Spencer as his little flick pass to TV would fool any back!

How id love if Jordan Crane was Irish born he's one of the BEST number 8's iv ever seen, how many meters did that man make??? Probably be England captain in a few years.

Ireland A gameplan was also just pure rubbish, was just kick after 3 phases and hope for the best, they were blunt as a hammer and just seemed like they couldnt be assed. I say it hurts even more that Geraghty was on fire but you could see that his mind and heart are completely on England which is a shame cause he's one hell of player

Cant see what you saw in Horgan he had a shocker and given EOS we'll probably be starting next week :(

Completely agree, the guy was superb and that was a brilliant piece of skill, Ol' Stu Barnes was bleating on about his discipline issues, though he seemed to stay on the right side of that equation while on the pitch.

Fantastic performance and TBH don't really know why he isn't in Ashton's squad. In leicester they reckon they guys the dog's and can only be a matter of time...

Think there was no gameplan, well at least none that survived first contact! The Saxons dictated the game completely such was their forward superiority.

Only said 'showed signs' or at least I thought so in the second half...not getting carried away...nowhere near cutting the mustard, but fear your prediction re: next week may well prove prophetic...

From a English perspective the future seems bright, an embarrassment of riches, must be licking their chops...not much coming through for us though...although I did think Fitzgerald looked bright on the rare occasions ( I counted two) he got the ball in a decent position...

Got caught by Ollie Smith on those two occasions i can remember didnt see the ball after that. Jennings form is running low at the moment aswell he wasnt as noticeable as he usually is.

I thought Shaggy had a horrible game, which is a shame because his form doesn't warrant selection for the main squad but he's badly needed (in form) as is Bowe and I never thought I'd say that about Bowe.

This time you were wrong. It turned out to be a very physical game. I was taking pictures at the game.
