Ok, so I feel the same way about gyms that Amy Winehouse feels about rehab. Phase 1 was 'give up smoking'. Check. Phase 3 was 'profit', obviously.
I now know pahse 2 is 'join gym'

Somewhere they will help me achieve my goals and is not too packed with sweaty plebs in the evening. Any suggestions?

Westwood in Sandymount is a great gym, and it is not as busy as the other Westwoods.

What about UCD gym? Quite alot of people from the surrounding neighbourhood are members there. The prices are very reasonable, and it has great cardio facilities although the free weights are not that great...

Check out Pinnacle Gym. Loads of free weights and not packed to the brim like other gyms. Martial arts classes too

Jackie Skelly in Ballsbridge. Its a big enough gym but expect to pay well for it.

JS Ballsbridge is nice but make sure you want to go as people seem to have a lot of problems getting away from it. Its never too packed but is a little pricey

Provide more info people!, don't just say a place is nice, but expensive, those aren't the criteria you'd use for recommending a gym.

This quality hotel place, is it open to the public? what is the setup/weights/equipment/staff/cost/busyness/pool etc.

    Links also help - http://www.qualityhoteldublincity.com/leisure-and-spa.htm

    I called through there.

    Joining fee: €100 (normally 200!)
    Off Peak: 50pm / 495 annual
    Full: 66pm / 770 annual

Includes classes, and the usual stuff

Fair point, I was in a bit of a lazy mood writing that;)

Quality Hotel is a quality gym! It's been over a year since I was there, and I only really went up round 8pm weekdays. By all accounts it is busy round peak times, 5-7pm, but it certainly quietens down round the 7.45-8.30 mark. I would go in and head for the weights area and there might only be 3 or 4 other people there! They also have a pool which at around the same time would only have a few people in it.

It also has lots of treadmills, plenty of bikes - the free weights section is decent enough too, 2 or 3 benches, they do classes too as you mentioned. Staff are friendly too.

JS ballsbridge i think is about 70 a month, theres some on street disc parking. They have a great cardio section weights section seems ok, the pool is grand but a little on the small side if the gym is busy, also a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi all decent size. Its pretty clean and well maintained but you have to wait about 6 weeks for your personal trainer appointment and some classes you have to pay extra for at 90 a month i think which is a bit ridiculous! I've never seen it get so busy you couldn't get a machine but i have had to wait for the pool before

Does JS do a student rate does anyone know?

They do but i think it applies to the joining fee mostly, maybe a couple of euro of the monthly fee

as a former staff member of jackieskellys(not ballsbridge) i would say to anybody to stay away if you can, they will screw u any way they can. even after a 12 month contract you must give 2months(130euro) notice and alot of people end there membership because they are leaving the area and still end up paying for the 2 montyhs which is sh!tty.....
