Installed a small IDE hard-drive along with my two SATA drives. Have the IDE set to master, the BIOS detects it and so on, but it will not show up in my computer. Device manager also shows its there.

Any ideas? Running vista btw (Plan to put XP on the IDE)

Have you formatted it? Does it show up in Disk Management?

    go to control panel.
    administrative tools.
    computer management.
on the left you will see disk management.
in there you will see all your harddrives.

find the new one. right click it.
format it. and assign a letter to the drive.

    and it will work then.

Never thought of Disk Management- got it there in the end. But drive has been making odd noises and has a disk failure every time I go to format. Will be sending it back to the ebay seller for a new one me thinks.....one thats actually branded!!

ouch. that sucks. well at least you know how to do it now :D

shame about it. ebay can be dodgy so id reccommend always buying harddrives new or at least get one thats branded.

Allot of the times sellers don't pack hard disks and other sensitive devices properly, these things are literly flung around in post offices etc, thats a sure way for any hard drive to die,

Some things are just not safe to buy off Ebay , flash memory and hard drives , never !! Too many dodgy products and fakes in these two cases.

Yea.....it said it was "branded" and it gave Seagate/Maxtor/Western Digital...............................but no, i get a Quantum Fireball. Most dodgy sounding thing ever.....

Quantum were taken over by Maxtor a few years back, who in turn were taken over by Seagate. So it was a brand name while still trading under that name. Good drives, I still have an 8 year old Quantum running in a PC I use for messing about on, bit noisy but still working fine, no bad sectors.

Quantum are gone years and years ago, taken over by Maxtor... I had a 20gig Quantum Fireball fail, so not really a fan :D. My dad did have a 15gig? i think Quantum in his old Gateway, worked ok no problems, I guess you can be lucky :)
