also, has anyone had or been to a vegetarian wedding? could you tell me what was the food like? where was it? would you recommend it?

Reception + wine for 97 people cost me 7000 euro.

    DJ/Music cost another 1000

    so thats do-able

and that was a 4 course dinner and reasonable wine (paid a corkage charge rather than buying it from the hotel)

Free bar will cost more :-)

    Hi Suzie,

I am in the same boat - trying to do it on a similar budget for about 80 people. Still researching venues and different scenarios - 'normal' hotel wedding, restaurant, buffet/BBQ. The costs do keep mounting. Went to a wedding fair in the RDS at the weekend. PM me for some venues that might work. have never been to a vegetarian wedding - you could hire a venue and get caterers in.

Growler - where did you have your wedding?

Check out Cloonacauneen Castle in Claregalway. We had our wedding there, absolutely fabulous, really romantic. We had 70 people and didn't go for the cheapest options on the menus, went for corkage on wine. Was about 4000 including everthing, bar ext and all. No hidden extras. MArie walsh is the proprietor and she's the person you deal with. I can;t tell you how fab she makes it. Have a look - http://www.clooncastle.com/
Hope you like it. Not much accommodation on site but loads of B and B's and a big hotel down the road. We just had a minibus to hotel at 3 o clock. Fab place, everyone was blown away by it.
About vegie, the food there is really good home style, we had roast lamb and salmon for our choice but the chef is really accommodating and I'd say vegie would be no problem. OUr vegie choice was really nice seemingly, a couple of my guests were vegetarian and thought it was great.

Tailors Hall in Christchurch Dublin. We were going to go with it but found room a little small for 100 guests in August. it was only €800 for the rental, you organised everytrhing yourself and it was a really beautiful old building.

Another place is Blackhall PLace, Dublin. they were very cheap too. Hope this helps.

I went to a vegetarian wedding in Brooklodge in Wicklow. It was good and I'm definitely not a veggie. we had to talk the couple out of doing a veggie curry for the dinner though - we warned them the smell wouldn't be worth it!! It's expensive there though and had major trouble with the accommodation there even though we had booked it well in advance. We couldn't get into our rooms to change and were told "you know, we did have a wedding here yesterday". We just pointed out that we were there for the same thing. Had to leave our bags in reception and they told us they'd check us in and leave bags in our rooms. ARound 11pm that night the best man came looking for me and a few others because he had been told that they were planning to give our rooms away because we hadn't checked in!! Ridiculous.

    Hi everyone

I am new here. I am also organising a budget wedding for next year. We want it very simple and a three course dinner, followed by tea/coffee will be fine. We would ideally be talking about a budget of about €3500 for a meal of 80-100 guests. We are very happy to hold the reception in a restaurant that has a function room or even a pub with a decent sized function room. It needs to be in or around Dublin. It may be alot to ask, but does anyone have any ideas of places. Maybe you have been to parties in such places. Thanks for your opinions in advance.:)

We recently had our wedding reception in Lawlors Hotel in Naas, Co. Kildare.
We had the meal in the restaurant €55 a head for 4 courses and had 70 people. We had 40 bottles of wine at €22 per bottle. We then went up to the function room for the party, which cost nothing extra.
Total for reception was €4700. The restaurant and function room were decorated including chair covers and abundant flowers for no extra. They also gave us the bridal suite for free. (bedrooms are huge!!)

We did have a free bar before and after the meal which came to €2000.
The Dj was €520 and managed to blag a free photographer. Cake was 350. We used our own car, did my own make up and hair. Clothes incl wedding dress (traditional ivory wedding dress, god bless the internet!!) €800. oh and €150 for the registrar (civil marraige)
I would highly recommend the hotel, food was fab and found no fault the whole day.

    Total for us = 8520
People are still saying what a wonderful day it was, We had a budget of 10K and managed to come in under budget.

I think a lot of companies charge over the odds for a wedding DJ. My max price for a wedding outside of dublin is €500. That would be for Galway/Claire areas. At the end of the day most DJ's are only on for a few hours, unless you don't have a band and they play from 8pm til 2am, so why charge extorionate prices?

Our DJ was for the whole day, was great craic too. I was glad of him as we were let down fairly close to the date, and as it was a friday I didn't mind.:)

I agree the prices are high for everything as soon as you say the word "wedding".
