Hi. Ive been prescribed Trimethoprim by my doctor while I'm waiting to be seen by a dermotologist. I have mild to moderate acne. I am always wary of antibiotics and wanted to get some opinions before I started taking it. I have been told to take 2 200mg tablets per day.

Done a bit of rooting around on the internet. Ive discovered that It seems to work really really well with almost everyone who takes it. Most people report skin clearing up within 1-2 weeks. The downside seems to be that the vast majority also have some sort of reaction to it and have to stop taking it. Joint pain, stomache pain, nausea, hives & rashes seem to be the main ones. I'm surprised my doctor didn't mention anything about this to me...

Has anyone taken this before ? Did it work/not work ? Did you get a bad reaction ?

I've been on Trimethoprin quite a few times for UTI's. The first few times I was on 200mg for six days, then I was put on a 100mg dose for two months. Experianced absolutely no side effects whatsoever. You're GP probably didn't mention it because severe side effects are quite rare. So stop scaring youself by looking things up on the internet, keep an eye on your body while taking them and go ask you GP if you have any concerns.
