Udo's Oil: is it really that good?

I just went out and bought a bottle of Udos Oil http://www.naturalife.ie/product.asp?numRecordPosition=9&P_ID=124&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=115. After nearly gagging trying to swallow the stuff, I realised you put it on food. It's bloody dear (€25.99 for 500ml, at 4 tablespoons a day), and certainly not as tasty as olive oil. Apart from being determined to not have wasted €25, is there any reason I should keep taking it? Has anyone taken the stuff and noticed a difference? If so, what - are you brainier, happier, sexier, more gorgeous (as per the back of the bottle)?

    Thanks!

I take it daily. Have an eczema problem and it definitely helped improve it. I am looking a lot thinner and toned as a result. Dont really know if I am any brainier but my mood is generally good and feel more energetic out running havin takin it. €25 a month isnt too much to spend on your health a month, I think its worth it. But sure try it for a couple of moths and see how you get on.

Thanks. And what do you do with it?

Have you tried any of the flaxoil products for the treatment of eczema - I believe flaxoil contains the active ingredients that can improve eczema and generic flaxoil products are a lot cheaper than 25e for 500ml.

The big "thing" about Udo's Oil is that is supposedly has the optimum blend of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids in it.

Having said that I don't think it's woth anything near the bones of €26. Oily fish, nuts and avocadoes in your diet should provide you with the same goodness. A good fish oil supplement (around €5 for a month's worth) is worth taking daily, and flax oil or milled flax seeds can be beneficial too, and a lot cheaper than Mr. Udo's wares!

Udo's oil is overpriced ass. As g'em says, bringing good food into your diet is better, you can buy alot of it for 25euro, and it's actual food, not just a 'supplement'. MOAR FIBRE IN YORE DIETZ = better gut = better life.
Get some hazelnut yoghurt and mix in flax seed oil. Natural yoghurt + fruit and nuts + flax seed oil is an expansion on the idea. Have one a day.
    Drink water.
    Drink less caffeine.

Yeah, I'm doing all that - I eat well, very healthily in fact. About 3 litres of water a day, almost no caffeine, plenty of natural yoghurt, fruit and nuts, as well as oily fish and avocadoes when I can. So this isn't a substitute for anything. Looking at the info on the oil, though, I thought it might be a useful addition. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there taking it and seeing (or not seeing) results.

OP, I just swallow it straight, its an acquired taste lets say.

Minder, any particular brand of flaxoil you'd recommend? Have been trying hard to reduce my eczema by healthy eating and its definitely helping.

Sorry, I haven't a particular brand in mind. I have a bottle in the fridge, will look it up. But it was not expensive. My little boy has developed eczema (he is still a baby) so giving him oil is out. But if it persists we will try him with flaxoil when he is older. Just wondered if you had any experience with it?

Is that not natural "cradle cap" that alot of babies get? My nephew & niece had it & are fine now. Didnt develop my eczema till I was 19 so cant offer any advice there.

I get mild eczema the odd time, could be from drinking too much and being dehydrated. Some health shops will have flax oil in the fridges, it is quite cheap compared to pills. Supermarkets now stock ground or hulled flax seeds too. Holland & barret often have capsules on special offer for a good price.

Also I get dermatitis and found changing to non-bio washing powder helped a lot. Might help the baby, thats why there usually is a baby on the non-bio packs. Also have to wear pure cotton (not cotton rich) socks. You can also put clothes on a second rinse cycle to get rid of any traces of washing powder.

my mam uses this its disgusting I tried taking it but nearly puked. Even if yu mix it in stuff or take a drink after the taste just wont go away. I take eskimo oil (similar stuff cheaper price) or boots omega 3 stuf in capsules instead. dunno why they dont do udos in tablet form.
oh, use the tony quinn bio oils before and they were brilliant and much cheaper than udos!

Holland & Barrett have their own version of Udo's Oil. Not sure how much it is but I know it's deffo a fair bit cheaper.....:)

I have taken Udo's oil several times now & I find it fantastic. I really notice a different in my hair, skin & nails.

I was really sick about 2 years ago & afterwards found it hard to get back to good health, I took other expensive vitamens but I didn;t feel that much better. I was then recommended this Udo's oil and tried it out, I Was very sceptical but had to eat my own words cos it was excellent.

I have also tried the Hollands & Barret version but to be honest didn;t find it as good. And it's also expensive I think around €20.

I agree Udo's oil is way expensive, but then alot of hte better vitamens or supplements are expensive. And I do agree that if you eat a healthy diet you shouldn;t need extras but in reality I find it hard to get all the vitamens etc from food so add on this to ensure I get the lot.

I take mine with orange juice - you can hardly taste it in freshly squeezed juice, PLUS you are getting one of your five a day with the juice!

IMHO it doesn't taste bad at all. I usually swally 3 dessertspoons at a go. Its also nice in salads and as a replacement for butter on spuds or vegetables.
I have to say though that occasionally it can make me feel slightly nauseous a good while after I have taken it.

I switched to a milled seed mix, because some days I couldnt face Udos. So I wasn't get the best from it.

I do notice that I'm more coherent when I have had my Omegas.

I take it every day as like the taste in my juices however i would still take a fish oil supplement also as with udo's you have to rely on your body to convert it into EPA & DHA which you do not have to with fish oils as they come ready made.

    Udo's Oil is pretty good.

Hard to find another like it that maintains is antioxidant properties (which you can notice from its bright yellow hue)

Found it recently for 500ml for €20...can't find the link!

Fish oils are extracted from fish liver and unless you are certain the fish is an unpolluted sea(unlikely)are best avoided. I take the Udo's capsules (I get them on my LTI book for my MS)9 a day. I didn't take them for the last two weeks as I was in hospital and can see the difference in my hair skin and even stiffness.

There are algae and gmo sources of DHA and EPA available now.
You might find them more effective.

This one should be available to buy OTC in Ireland.

Its widely known that the conversion of flax/linseed oil to EPA and DHA is reallllly low so just buy a big bottle of carlsons oil from www.iherb.com

I use it in this Breakfasy yoghurt dish instead of the flaxseed oil.

Sorry to be adding to this zombie thread, but as someone recovering from an array of illnesses Udo's Oil has done me the world of good. I do regularly eat oily fish and nuts also (although not avocados, as I dislike them).

On days when I don't take my Udo's Oil I feel less alert, have less energy and feel, as has been said above, stiff in my limbs.

I stir it into porridge and yoghurts, and also put it on pasta and in salad dressings. I think it tastes good, but like with any other oil, I wouldn't be eating it by the spoonful.

The most noticeable thing it has done is thicken my hair. My hair has been falling out in clumps for years and now it is growing back nicely and not falling out at all.
