    Hi,

I hurt my foot about 8-9 months ago playing soccer. and ever since, the top of the foot (where it joins the ankle) is killing me when i try to run or play sports.
I've been to the doctor, had it X-Rayed and had 10 Physio sessions on it but to no avail.

I'm hoping that someone here knows of a good Podiatrist (foot specialist) in the Dublin City centre area.
Can you let me know if any of ye have been to one and whether they're any good?

    Thanks in advance...

    Thanks for the feedback.

It was City Physio I went to, but they were not able to fix the underlying problem with my foot, so i stopped after .
I'm trying to find some specialists (that have good feedback from people) in Foot problems rather than general Physios or sports doctors.
Sportsmedireland (from their website) seem to be just like City Phsyio.

Does anyone else know of any foot Specialists around the city centre?

I think the first thing to do is find out what's wrong with it. If it was a straight forward soft tissue injury it should be better/improving by now. You had it x-ray'd, but what views? ie basic x-rays will use the views/angles that will show up the most common fractures etc. So these could be clear if you had a less common type e.g. talar dome fracture. Also, x-rays only show up bone injuries - if there was any soft tissue injury - muscle, nerve, ligament, fascia, blood vessels, these would not show up on x-ray so MRI would be better. So I would advocate seeing a specialist (probably an orthopaedic surgeon) who should be able to from the history and examination identify the most likely causes and therefore recommend and arrange the most appropriate investigations, probably more comprehensive x-rays and MRI.
Then when you have a diagnosis you'll know whether it's a podiatrist, a physiotherapist, an orthopaedic surgeon, a rheumatologist or no one (maybe rest is needed, maybe exercise) you need to see.

When you went to the Physio, what sort of things did they do to your ankle or leg?

Did they give you rehab exercises and did you actually do them?

They mainly tried to massage teh foot to try to remove any inflammation that may have been present.
They showed me how to do it and recommended that i do it at home, which i did, but alas, to no avail. :(

Fortunately I don't have personal experience, so if I was to recommend anyone it would only be based on what I've heard, so can't be too much help. Conor O'Brien in ?Fitzwilliam Square is a sports med doctor, so he may be good to make a diagnosis, arrange the investigations. Or the new clinic in Santry with Ray Moran etc., they're well experienced with elite sportsmen (apparently some NFL American Football teams use them). But a good reputation doesn't necessarily mean anyone is any good, so I can't really recommend anyone.

Whoever you see, explain that you want a diagnosis, and get them to explain their diagnosis. If someone says - 'I'll inject it' say 'Why and where?' If they can justify the treatment (ie say 'I'm going to inject x ligament because it is inflamed as determined by y investigation') fair enough. They need to be specific or if a specific diagnosis cannot be found (very often the case) at the very least they should be able to rule a number of things out so you can be confident to get on with things, rehabilitate without fear of doing further damage.

Amazing the number of people who go to see someone about an injury and when you ask them afterwards, 'what's the problem?' they don't have a clue - either the person they went to see didn't explain the problem or the person looking for treatment didn't undertand, in which case they should have asked for clarification. If you take your car to get fixed, you come away knowing the fan-belt/starting motor/brakes were broken, you mightn't understand too much about that, but at least you know what was wrong....
